NBC Passes On Wonder Woman

T
ER...you seem to take some sort of joy on these threads taking the opposing side from me and history shows not usually the correct one.

For the record, I only disagreed with you once in the past. Once doesnt necessarily mean I am taking "enjoyment" in opposing you. And being wrong once in my life doesnt mean I am always going to be wrong. By chance are you a scorpio?

As I recall, I posted this in the past "I know onigiri means well..I have a lot of respect for him, and I understand why you think he was attacking me..I seen him debate before in past threads, and I know he means well towards me..

Also, he gave great insight in the buckle situation a year or so ago, and he was one of our biggest supporters...I know he is looking out for me"...

Yup, nothing but respect for you. I enjoy reading your banters and reading your opinion on several threads. But sometimes it is better to take the high road and ignore sarcastic posts, rather then trying to purposely embarrass a person.

Also, I would never try to debate you. I would have better luck talking to a wall.......

Goooood morning everbody, and welcome to another day at the RPF with senseless verbal violence!!!

I guess we´d get better ratings broadcasting one of these threads than Wonder woman would have generated :lol :lol

Please take any further bickering and whining to personal messaging, and continue to discuss the actual topic itself.

Thank you, thank you, thank you from a very sunny spot over here in Germany, blue sky, birds chirping, looks like another weekend coming up where the good ol´ Ju-52 can be seen flying across the sky, hope it does not bump into a badly scripted invisible plane ...

I wonder if all the bad responses that people have posted on the net before the final episode aired was the reason foe NBC backing out.

Wolf

Wonder Woman (Adrianne Palicki) is both a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles, a successful corporate executive (as her alter ego, Diana Prince) and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life.

When this is their description, how in the world could they expect it to succeed as Wonder Woman? This sounds like something that should be on Lifetime...

Damn, I had High hopes that being NBC, it would have been as good as The Bionic Woman, or The Cape. Ah well...

This comment was pure sarcasm for the sarcastically challenged.

Oh so true. Although I have no clue what Lifetime is, I bet it´s one of those "real life drama" series.

Tv channel made for women......you know, the men are always bad and the women are heros. Or mr mcdreamy is a sweet man that helps this midlife crises woman accomplish her goals and makes her feel 15 again

DOES IT REALLY MATTER? Is your day ruined by having to see another post on it? Stop whining. If you have nothing constructive to say to the topic and are just trolling , do us a favor and just keep your opinion to yourself Kerr. Nobody cares. Or at least I don't. Now let's get back on topic.

I think the CW should pick up Wonderwoman and do away with Kelly and do it right. Smallville needs a suitable replacement. I really want to see WW !

Really. Does no one check to see if anything has already been posted before?

Agreed...it just doesnt work. I think theyd have to do more like what they are doing with Thor and actually embrace the mythology as opposed to trying to downplay it and pretend it doesnt exist. I think the character will do well as a supporting character but I dont think they have the ability to make the character stand on her own.

Yeah, because who purposefully limits the female role in super hero movies/tv shows to mere supporting characters? But I guess it's good to know that there are folks who believe that DC's most signature leading lady in comic book history will only do well as a "support" character rather than a character who can drive and carry the story.

The failure of this series will not be associated with it's weak script, poor portrayal of Wonder Woman or it's bad costume design. No. Everything will be associated to the gawddang fact that Wonder Woman is a female character. Nobody at DC or Warner Brothers believes that audiences want to see a female character when they can have batman/superman instead. Want proof?

Batman/Superman: Apocalypse. Sounds like an end of the world type story where Batman and Superman must save the day, right? Well, would you believe that this is actually an adaptation of "Batman/Superman: Supergirl"? where Batman only plays a supporting role?

Why do you think they changed the title outside the fact that the original would imply that the story is about a female character and NOT about Batman/Superman?

While I can understand the desire to see one's favorite (or one of your favorites) hero on screen, I gotta ask -- what price are you willing to pay just to see the costume? From the VERY little I'd heard and seen about this, it was going to be a really really BAD idea. Personally, if I'm a fan of something, I'd rather see it done right or not at all than done half-assed.

Like, I'm a Daredevil fan. I think a Daredevil TV show on HBO would be fantastic. It could be dark and gritty like the comics (I bonded with the Frank Miller/Dave Mazzucchelli run), without the need to censor things. But as much as I'm a Daredevil fan, I do NOT want to see, for example, anything remotely approaching the film version (although I thought Affleck was actually ok). I certainly don't want to see something where they basically take the character and "reinterpret" him for a "hip, modern audience with hip, modern sensibilities. You know, for the kids." or whathaveyou. It sounded A LOT to me like that's what was going on with the WW show, and that sounds like baaaaaaad news, man.

The other thing is that each BAD attempt that gets publicly rejected only further cements the notion by "the suits" that "this character is impossible to bring to the screen." In that sense, merciful infanticide for this series may be the better approach than a tortured existence as it's gradually ridiculed by critics and fans alike and canceled mid-season by Episode 7 or 8.

Well at least air the pilot and let us decide. If it's bad, pull it or improve it. Come on, there were seasons of Smallville that were just bad, but they pulled it together and the last few seasons were spectacular. They aren't even giving the show a chance.
I think a female hero is just fine. Look how long Xena lasted on tv..

Maybe, it wasnt worth the money for NBC. You did bring up a great point earlier. Maybe, Wonder Woman would work better on a network like CW rather than NBC. CW shows are teeny popper shows that market towards the younger audience.... their ratings are usually in the low side compared to other networks....so their chances would be higher with CW....

Although Xena was very successful, i think it would be difficult to compare the two. I think wonder woman is more widely known and interpretation maybe criticized more scrutinizing compared to xena......

Thor worked - by intorducing the 'supernatual' element first in its own setting and then bringing the character to the real world.
I strongly hope that we will see a big screen adaptation of Wonder Woman's origin. The story used for the animated movie was great and would make an awesome live action movie.
The basic concept behind the WW tv series was, I feel, a joke and a complete waste of time and a waste of a great comic character with such a righ origin and background.

Sorry, but this was an abortion of a series to begin with. When they start with "Primarily, she is Wonder Woman, superhero crime fighter in Los Angeles. In a world (and a town) that worships celebrities, she’s the biggest one there is. She is also Diana Themyscira (her “secret identity” is not a secret to the world), the head of Themyscira Industries, whose primary function is to make money to fund Wonder Woman’s super heroics. They do this primarily through selling Wonder Woman merchandise."

You've got a series that has no potential, and would be further embarassing as a super hero TV show. Better these things get killed before they come to air so they don't ruin chances for other worthy things to come out.

And Onigiri, your mailbox is full .. :D

I imagine it'll probably show up on iTunes eventually the way the unaired Aquaman pilot did. I didn't really expect the show to be fantastic but I have been very curious to see it regardless.

Animation is great and all and I don't fault folks for loving it if that's their thing... more power to 'em. But I want a live action show that isn't afraid to feature costumed superheroes, not just another animated show. I rather enjoyed the CGI animated Iron Man and the anime style of Batman Gotham Knight but the rest of the recent offerings haven't impressed me personally. The animation just sucks IMHO.

One of the reasons I stuck with Smallville was for the sake of seeing characters like Green Arrow who I always thought was done surprisingly well. I think a Green Arrow spin-off could be quite cool actually.

And I'm confident Wonder Woman COULD work as a live-action show if they treat the character seriously.
