Here you go!

Great pics, Bryan! It doesn't look like it's that hard of a conversion, after all.

Just need to swap off the entire earpiece, that's one screw per side, then drill two holes for the loupes to attach to the frame.

Are the attachments for the loupe to the screw rod the same as they are on the movie pair? It's hard to tell from screen cap what the attachment looks like.

I just saw this thread!!

I will post pic of a set of lenses my mom has in a case set!
the tinted round ones.

may be a bit larger than you nee but i'll let the pic do the talking!

just have to drive back home...at my moms picking up the case, it's right beside me!:thumbsup

It looks like it might very well be the same setup, however from the pic on the frist page, it seems that the gold spacers might need to be rearranged. two go in front of the first loupe, and one separates loupes. I haven't gotten mine yet, so does anyone know if there are three spacers or only two?

Here's where you need to grind down the earpieces so they'll fit the gold frames right-

I did mine with them already on, so I could check every few seconds to make sure I didn't grind off too much. :)

Are you guys repainting any part of the frames, or just leaving them two-tone?

The eBay ones are two tone, but I checked in the movie and they look like they're all a dull brass color, so I'll be painting mine. :)

My mom said she has this set around 1968.
the three colored lenses in the movie images instantly made me remember her set.

she says it is a very expensive set. some lenses are missing(around 2-4), probably from me playing with them when i was a kid, very great shape. all lenses are clear no scratches.

lmk what you guys think.

Very possible, considering that if SgtFang is right about the propmaker using found items, this is certainly a found item. And it matches the colors of the lense. If they are the right size, they could even be inserted into the loupe. Do you have measurements of the lenses? Do they come in different sizes?

HOLY...!!!:eek

What are those actually used for? In all my googling I never came across any tinted ones at all. :confused

What are the diameters?

-Sarge

Ok, according to my 2.00 Harbor Freight gauge, the ones I have here are 27mm, including the frame. (probably about 25mm for just the lens)

Hows that compare to your lenses?

Anybody finished yet? :D I need to get more money in and get my colored lenses still.

UPDATE

I went out and got a couple 1/16" titanium drill bits at Lowes the other night and drilled my frames. I went slowly with my drill press and they went right through w/o any problems. You WILL want to put the frames on some kind of block to keep them from wiggling around though. I found a gold pressed latinum bar works great- it fits perfectly, and is thick enough to hold the frames up off the bed.

Once the holes are drilled, just unscrew the nut/collar at the end of the loupe's shaft, toss the clip, put the shaft through the hole, replace the nut, and tighten down till the lenses stay put, but are still moveable. Clip off any extra threaded shaft.

Oh! Harbor Freight has the silver loupes for 4.99 ea.!

Hey SgtFang,
Do you still have the picture of the glasses on the declaration of independence (the one that was on the first page)? it disappeared, and had a really good layout of how to piece together the loupes once you drilled. For instance, I believe according to that picture, the screen accurate piece had the format switched around, where the screw part was on the front end of the loupes. There was also a third spacer (or so it seemed) That pic might clear it up. Thanks.
