My water ready Jaws Quint ORCA replica

You are now my prop-building hero! As a lifelong JAWS fan (I'm about six months older than the film itself), I am absolutely floored to see this work of beauty. I've known of fan art for most of my life, but this is the first I'd actually call art. Admittedly, I may be a bit biased.

Please know that I would consider it a high personal honor to sail aboard your ORCA if ever I had the opportunity. My love for the movie has also engendered in me a respect for the Great White Shark; I applaud your aim to bring attention to the issues that impact on their welfare. It does my heart good to see how many people in forums like this one try to find ways to intertwine their personal passions with philanthropic endeavor. Please, keep us all posted on your progress, and absolutely show us some more of this beautiful vessel!
 
Just watched Jaws again today. Such a classic. Mad I never got a retro "crush it like quint" beer when they were offered.

Next week marks the 40th anniversary of the release of JAWS; Turner Classic Movies will host screenings at select theaters across the country. I've already got my tickets!

Since the announcement, I've been thinking about your ship; have you made any progress on your ORCA? Can we hope for pics from a TMC screening?

Either way, best of luck completing this outstanding project!

Hey All,

Sorry for not updating, have not been on here in quite some time. Was hoping to be further along before I updated again but other projects , weather, and a heart attack has put it on the back burner the past 8 months or so. Here is how it stands today. Have a few small dress pieces on the bench , scuba tanks, seat cushions, booze bottles, and dirty plates/cups about ready to add in a week or two. Still tons left to do before it is anywhere done, mast details, rear door, transom area, weathering ... but hoping to hit it hard again this summer, we shall see ?!?!

OMG this is awesome!! Im a huge fan of jaws being so close to home. i remember back in the 80's the boat was left on shore for people to play on... i wonder what ever happened to that?

awesome job man, you dont happen to know the brand name of the original boat?
 
You are thinking of the ORCA 2 , the sink on cue copy that was left on the shore . Lynn and Susan Murphy purchased it after production and left it on the shore of their property but fans , treasure seekers, and the elements took it's toll . They moved it into storage and now sell small fiberglass pieces to wanting fans. The actual ORCA was sold back to Universal once the movie became a blockbuster and sat on the Hollywood backlot tour till Universal thought it best to chainsaw it up and throw in a dumpster after years of no up keep . Movie history lost forever !

Thanks for sharing that! I am a huge fan of the orca 1. Actually last night jaws was on, so me and my girl watched it. I can't really find any info on the original boat, brand name ect ect. Do you know where I can learn more about the boat and props used?

Thought I'd share what I'm working on now...My 18 foot replica Orca boat from Jaws! The challenge has been having to find and or build everything to not only look the part but also function too. It's not a 100% screen accurate, as the donor boat did not allow for it, but think it's doing the old vessel justice. Plan to fit it with a small outboard motor and when not on the lake I will be taking it to SyFy/Horror/ Comic cons to raise money for Great White Conservation.

Have Nick Marra's Quint, Brody, Hooper busts on the way so I can have the big three sitting around the table sharing scars and a song haha ... thought that would be a fun touch.

Still have much more to do but very happy so far with how it's looking.

Actually that’s not correct. The Orca hero boat was Universal property they never bought it at least not the first time around. It was shipped back to LA and sold to a local California fisherman who actually used it for fishing for about $13,500.
After the movie became a block buster Universal bought it back. And paid a dear price for it over $135,000 .
It then when shown at the ride for awhile before being stored in the back lots where it rotted away n eventually destroyed.
That’s full story and true one.
