My Vader ANH Early Progress Pics

Just shove some kind of spacer between the legs and torso, then fiberglass a few layers around it. You'll be surprised how strong the fiberglass is once it sets. Its rock hard.

The only thing that bothers me about that is I wouldn't be able to separate the mannequin at the waist if it's all bonded up. Would that make putting the suit on more difficult?

I've been working on my 1:1 ANH Vader. There's been some progress. The belt needs work, the hands need to be stuffed, and I need a codpiece. Also have to prop the helmet a bit higher, but I'm pretty happy so far.

Really nice progress, though you really need to do something about those arms, imo... makes him look lifeless... or underwhelming. Costume, armor and helmet looks absolutely stunning. :thumbsup

This here is my all-time favorite pose:

There are also the ESB pictures where he's holding his hands closer to the belt buckle, but then you can't see the belt boxes.

The components all look great, but I would suggest that the mannequin needs bulked up more around the chest, shoulder and arms. It took me a few goes with my own ANH mannequin to achieve that bulky Prowse look.

But aside from that, its all looking fantastic, nice job.

Yes, thank you for the advice ob1al, NHM, and Kev. I will definitely try to pad him a bit more up top. Problem is, it's already a tight fit with the suit, but I think I can. Another factor is the armor is undersized. Once I get my accurate armor, I think (hope) that will help. I also hope to raise the helmet a bit off the shoulders. Look at that pic NHM posted and compare it to mine, and you'll see what I mean.

I do so appreciate the honest feedback. That's exactly what I posted for. After a while, I get so excited to just see Darth Vader standing in my basement, I begin to loose objectivity about it. Always helps to have a second set of eyes.

But I will say, I got a rush seeing this thing come together. :D At the very least, I have something cool to put in my foyer when the kids come for Trick or Treat.

They were the $25 cheapies on eBay. :lol Worth every penny.

They are nice, I just checked their auctions though for the close up pics, and they don't have the outer stitched fingers like the screen used gloves. I researched mine against the last stitching on the screen used ones to make them as authentic as possible including the fingers with the outher stitches which my glove guy charged me extra for because he told me they have to be hand stitched to look that way.

Is that possible? I mean... won't the mannequin's head be in the way?

Well, you could always saw off part of the chin and lower jaw to make it fit or cut the head off completely and replace it with a rod with a soft round top to rest the helmet on.

Looking forward to more pictures... :)

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking I'd do. I'm going to attempt to slice the face off, and then pad out a new head. The face of the mannequin will be the new neck.

You're right about the arms too. I will probably live with them for awhile. I'd love to have poseable arms somehow...

Well, poseable arms would be cool... though, you could just cut up those you have and add hinges at the elbows and shoulders to reposition them in the pose you want and then glue them into place... until you get posable arms that fit the mannequin....

I wish I had the skill or knowledge to do what you described. :lol

LOL... who needs skill... just do it... that's how you learn. :lol

Where did you get the body suit?

(Nice progress BTW. Any suggestion I would make has already been covered by others.)
