My V3 HDPE TROOPER HELMET **FINISHED! see post #207

That looks really great. You've really done it this time.

After reading through this whole thread again, I'm wondering where all the people who didn't think like the way it looked have gone. It seems once you painted it up, they have not had anything to say. :lol

Or it is because the people who said something negative got warned and their posts got censored/deleted!? Now "lol" again... :rolleyes

I haven't said anything regarding this project. I applaud the idea of having the right colour HDPE, but I think the pulls look rather soft in comparison to Gino's old kits, which is a shame.

/\ what he said. Gino still avoided a few questions and stated that he purposely altered his molds to leave out details. Is this a nice helmet? Sure . Will there be better ? Definitely! Either by him with his V4 which will ne his mostest more accurate or bt someone else.

Just to stop this one in its tracks, to my recollection, only one person (who has an extensive history with Gino) was asked to back off and they edited their comments at their own choosing. Lets not turn this into a conspiracy theory. Members are free to say something "negative" as long as it is done respectfully and is within the member guidelines.

... oh and R2Dan, you have received your first infraction for daring to imply Gino's old helmets were sharper than his new. Please remove your negative comments and... j/k :lol

Alright, I'll apologise - I've heard other things, but then again, there's always three sides to each story.

Then let me rephrase that: Sometimes not praising things to heaven is enough of a statement - as I said, I'm not too fond of the result, even if the idea is great and the pics are nice, still the helmets looks rather soft to me.
But I don't see why I should state that in here (wait... I just did! But I was provoked) - it will only end in a mindless bashing, as we've seen several times before.

What I'm trying to say: if you guys love it, go ahead and get one, enjoy it.
But don't assume everyone else loves it because nobody states otherwise. There's no point in arguing if your questions are ignored anyway

Beautiful Work Gino!

I admire the great pains to "get it right".

It shows.

WELL DONE!!!!

All the best,
Chuck...

Thanks Chuck! :thumbsup

O...but I think the pulls look rather soft in comparison to Gino's old kits, which is a shame.

If you had a V3 kit right next to a V2 kit, you would see that the V3 is not softer at all. They are the same. In fact, due to the way the hdpe forms/cools, many details are quite sharper. In other words they reflect details found on the original helmets.
Also, the cap/back is exactly the same level of sharpness as the screen used donor helmet it was cast from (the Brian R).

The one area that does appear softer is the crease line that follows along the cheek tubes. However if you study the original screen used helmets, you will see that they do not create a sharp crease like we are used seeing on fan made styrene/abs helmets (which is inaccurate).

Our eyes are so used to seeing styrene/abs helmets that possess incorrect details that when we see something more correct it almost looks wrong.

But if there has ever been a more accurate fan made ANH background helmet, I would love to see it.
PS, all the people who I have seen express negative comments have of course been those I've had negative history with or are their friends. Big surprise.

Regardless, I'm completely happy with the results and look forward to building up more in different styles. :)
It truly is the closest thing to having a screen used helmet which has been my goal for as long as I can remember.
