My Studio Scale Y-Wing

I had Dean paint and weather this for me after I built it, all the electronics are installed (similar to Jason's configuration) I just need to get some fiber optics for the cockpit panels and a pilot and finish detailing the inside. Here are pictures along with the paint scheme Dean was reproducing. I am also going to do a new base for it that is the length of the fighter from nose to tail like I did for my X-Wing (right now it's on a temporary ICONS base.

Thanks guys...

I have my MR Falcon still crated after I inspected it, I hope I can get into a bigger place soon so I can display the collection with some breathing room. I will take some pictures of the Randy Cooper Blockade Runner I built and lit that that Dean also painted for me and post some pics, I'm waiting on a Rebel Insignia base from the Starship Modeler store to support it.

The X-Wing is an original Captain Cardboard version with lights, I got the Salzo "Hero" kit unbuilt and I am going to look for someone to paint it up for me also since I don't trust I can do it justice and sell this one when I do. And I will probably replace my Chris Kelley X1 with the MR one when it is released and rework with electronics and paint it to match the color of my standard TIE as well. Does anyone have any inside info on when MR will be releasing photos of their X1?

Also does anyone have any sources on X-Wing pilot figures? I need one to put in this Y-Wing. I have to say, although the yellow panelled R2 unit in this one is as accurate as I could get to the pictures of the model, there's just something that seems wrong about a yellow paneled R-2 unit... I don't want to do him blue though for accuracy sake and it's still a nice contrast to the blue paneled R2 in Luke's X-Wing.

I thought the R2 in that version "TIE killer Y Wing was all grey?

Also if you really want to get studio scale accurate. There were NO, zero nadna , R2's in the Y Wings during thier 2 ship trench run. They freakin forgot to put them in for the shoot. Gotta love those waky ILMers.

I think there are yellow panels on it, the picture of the studio model above at high resolution shows some yellow panels, so since I am trying to do idealized displays that combine details of the cockpit sets against the models, I think I got it pretty close.

I noticed the R2 plugs empty in those screen grabs from Kurt's thread. pretty funny.

I noticed them too as I was taking those grabs. One could build a Y with an empty Astrodroid socket and still have a correct studio replica....

EDIT: Yes, I know Steve said the same thing. That's what I git fer bein' a gradiate of the Sped-Reddin' Coarse.

I finally started working on finishing the lit cockpit details of my Y-Wing. What would the cockpit be without Gold Leader?

He's made with an X-Wing pilot body, Hasbro Endor Rebel soldier figure head and the Hasbro Gold Leader figure helmet.

Here's the Luke from my X-Wing for clearer reference on how it was done:

Sorry for the blurry pic, I don't know how to get sharper pics with my digital camera on such a small part.

More pictures as I progress...

Awesome Y-wing,

The best weathering I've seen for the y-wing, very realistic and aged looking effect, most Y and X weathering I see still look new covered by a intentional weathering which looks fake. Dean does great work!!! his militaria paint experience really show on his models.

Great job. I agree with what others have said-that is some excellent weathering. Great build as well. You have a really nice collection of SS there!
