I know there are various "non-movie" and low budget builds on here. Not sure if I cross a line by posting something that is both, but I thought it was worth sharing.
My wife converted my son's radio flyer car into the Mars Curiosity rover, and made space suits for my father-in-law and I (my son's costume is store bought). Excluding my son's orange flight suit, and the radio flyer, it was all done for around $35-$40.
If anyone is actually interested in how we did it I'd be happy to put together a brief tutorial. Also if anyone wants to do a serious space suit build, my wife and I both use to work at Oceaneering Space Systems who had the Constellation Space Suit contract while we were there. I'd be happy to offer any input on materials etc.
You might think that having worked with actual space suits I'd do a better build, but for a 2 year old's Halloween costume I didn't see the need (or have the time) to go all out.
