My Shrunken Head (or Jack Sparrow's mom...)

Interesting project and some nice progress with the leather.

My stepfathers brother had 2 real ones in a display case as you entered his house.

They where in a glass cabinet along with a bunch of other things.

Those and being board in a house full of people speaking spanish are the only things I remember from visiting his house.

So I finally found some time (and the nerve...) to punch some hair into my little friend here. I have made a start by doin' the eyebrows first.
Now this thing being leather, I can't just grab a punching needle and start punching away at it. I actually have to take a needle, make a little hole in the leather, grab an individual hair, dip it in some glue, and push it into the hole...

This means that it's A LOT of work, but very meditative. Now that I almost have two eyebrows done, I'm in total peace with the universe!:)

I'll be adding some more hairs, maybe trim them a little, and after that, start with the hairs on the head.

Thanks for watching

The hairs might be a lot of work but the result is exellent..!!

From one Dutchie to another: Two thumbs up!

This is one of the most unique and creative things I've seen on the rpf lately. Fantastic work. :thumbsup

Exceptionally bizarre! I'd hang it from the rear view mirror, (after you stitch the eyes shut, of course)!
Well worth the hours and effort.
A latex lump just wouldn't have that kind of.. personality!
Cheers, I6

Did you ever get this finished?

I posted some new pic's last week showing the eyebrows I did recently.
It's all about the hairpunching now, it takes a lot of time...
Also started on a new sculpt for a more screenacurate AWE version.
So please stay tuned!!

Months and months just passing by, busy working, without having the time to even look at this project. Recently I’ve been able to start with the hair, at the sides. Still needs a lot, but it gives an idea where it is going.

‘Cause this being a first attempt to actually shape leather into an actual head, I didn’t focus on screen accurasy that much. For that, I’ve started a second version.
This time I’m using an egg-shaped piece of polystyrene as a base. The dolls head I used for my nr.1 worked great, but the overall form was already to specific, and although I sculpted on top of it, I couldn’t get a rid off the round cheeked shape…

With this second version, I’m going for the At World’s End head, the one given to Sparrow by Rolling Stone Keef. I might have a go on the On Stranger Tides version in the future, because,as the rest of the OST costume, the head looks completely different (but still, I’m not a big fan of the new Sparrow look…)
Thanks for watching and hoop to finish nr. 1 soon...

Hee, you started a new model. looks great! Are you gonna use leather on the second version aswel or are you painting that one? Can't wait to see them both finished.

Absolutely bad-assed. Have you given any thought to a wooden under skeleton? It would be harder to carve then the clay but would provide a super sturdy base to stretch your leather over.

Dutchman those heads are fantastic! I love the leather one it looks so real with the wrinkles and all. I have one that was said to be real but it's goat skin or something. Keep up the great work i look forward to seeing them finished.

Thanks everyone :).
@Rango:The second one will be leather too, this is just a base to shape the leather on. I found a nice brown/grey-ish piece for it. Hopefully it works out just as nice as my number 1 (maybe I just got lucky that first time :lol)

@wickedoffroad: I like to be able to pin down the leather on the sculpt, when I shape it. Wood would be to hard for that, but thanks.
