My Seaquest Prop Collection [Long]

I was at UEO headquarters having dinner on Saturday. Then we went fishing with the kids using the restaurant's free poles. I cast my daughter's line and the reel fell off into the bay. Cheapo UEO fishing poles!

How come there are no pics (anywhere) of the Darwin prop? I've never been able to find any.

...somewhere I saw pics of the 1:1 stinger at an auction house but I can't find those now either.

Darwin was owned and operated by Alterian studios. After the show, the Darwin props went back to them and so they weren't part of the auctioned off properties. To maintain the illusion, during production he was treated as 'real' as far as any behind the scenes info was concerned, so no pictures were released. He even had his own lockup are on one of the soundstages where the Alterian folks stored the Darwins and everything to operate and maintain the puppets. It was easy to maintain the illusion because real dolphins look as fake as a rubber one! :).

That would still be cool.
I made the small models of the seaquest and the stinger when they originally came out in the early 90s.
You know the kind you bought at the hobby shop and put together.
Actually I still have the scars from building those models (sliced my index finger knuckle open- you could see the bone) but I don't have the models anymore.
I remember working so hard getting the paint as accurate as I could to the screen shots

Hey Mark! Thanks for the info. I was actually quite surprised when I learned that Dawin wasn't real. They sure did a great job at maintaining that illusion!

Here are the pics that I was looking for: SQ40 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

The guy who took those has all sorts of pics including the Stinger. :thumbsup

Those pics still make me sad!

The painjob on that stinger would be difficult to reproduce. And the CG stinger didn't match the full size prop in many ways either!

I really loved that show. The premis of the show was great. I remember watching the pilot episode when it first aired.

It's still sad that Brandis took his own life back in 2003 and Roy Scheider was lost in 2008.

LOL - um...that's a good question. When I think of the episodes that I liked the most, they were mostly the more realistic ones - rescuing a sunken submarine, fending off a hostile submarine take over, making undersea discoveries, etc...I wasn't a fan of the whole alien/Mark Hamil storyline or the Dagger genetic engineering storylines...at all

When it was good, it was like underwater Star Trek (adventurous, exciting, interesting) bu when it was bad...it was just awful.

Agreed on all points!

Although, having worked on season 2 and 3, but not 1, it was fun to be there! Probably more fun to work on than to watch!

Hey Mark,

I didn't mean any insult by my comment. I have both seasons 1 & 2 in my DVD collection. There were things that I thought were really well done and transitioned decently from season 1 into Season 2 & 2032. Though I think that it was in the story line where the series was plagued with weakness, I did like the more militaristic feel, and though I preferred Scheider, I thought that Michael Ironside was great addition (albeit a complete change in character tone).

I envy you for having been a part of the production. That must have been a great experience.

Hey, I didn't write the thing! No insult taken!

I agree with your points- there were even a lot of things about seson 2 that I liked; many of the stories seemed like they would have been just fine if they hadn't thrown in a monster. I agree about Sheider and Ironside too- very different, but I liked both. I loved seeing Ironside get that kind of lead role in a series; he dererved it and the play between him and Jon Brandis was great!

It was a good experience- lots of good people to work with.

You guys have no idea how happy this thread makes me.
I remember fastidiously setting up my vcr so that even if something happened I would be able to watch my seaquest.
I as obsessed, even went so far as to get the trading cards.

The monster thing did get tiring once in a while.
I even liked some of the alien episodes, but I think there were just way too many changes in 2032, losing Sheider as the captain (hey I was a teen/preteen, I didn't have the concept of appreciating good acting or changing tones) really hit me hard as a fan.

Bradley if this whole internet business existed (as it does now) and I had access to you back then, youd have hated me as I would have been a total stalker constantly pestering you for info hehe.

I still think the bridge from season 2 is one of the most visually stunning -space or naval.

Seaquest Bridge Officers Seasuit Uniform (LT. JR)

Just thought Id let everyone know I recently brought this from a bloke in the states and I think its pretty cool and it fits me perfectly;).

This is an actual screen used Seaquest Bridge officers costume used by an extra in the show from either the 2nd or 3rd series. The suit comes complete with Lieutenant (Grade Junior (LTJG)) rank patches, a UEO patch and the original seauqest DSV patch.

thanks for looking;)

Epic Collection! Uniform is def. my favourite item :p
I love the first series, and second was a bit 'meh'... But still, a more realistic blend of sci-fi with reality.
Bradleyfett -- Thanks for sharing the photos. Was incredible (and kind of sad) seeing all the old sets / props being dismantled.
