Well, after several years out of the hobby....... selling off ALL my replicas and most of my customs, I finally went and decided to build my "very first" replica prop!:lol I thought I'd take the pics in front of my family trunk- from my great-grandmother's house
With the help of IRONMAN, acyang, and falcon dude, I have been able to put together what I think is a much more accurate ANH Obi-Wan than I used to have. I used to have a Darth Hez, which I still wish I had, but with the discoveries of the Derwent balancing pipe, and ANM2 Booster, I don't know if I could have upgraded it.
This one consists of a powder coated Russrep grenade that I weathered, a fairly accurate emitter that I reworked a little trying to get that "cool curved" look on the 16-hole ring:lol, Graflex Reborn clamp that came all modded-up with the screws and wire (I have a real clamp, but I'm hesitant to drill it), anodized "gear", and chrome pommel.
I machined a spacer under the clamp, with grooves for the clamp tabs, brass screws, and thru-wire. And I had to mill slots on the grenade for the brass screws as well.
I have two different emitters, should the mood arise......a few clamps, and a resin gear. Not sure what I'm doing but I'm making this up as I go. I don't machine sabers anymore, but this is more fun. Someday, I'd like a "real parts" Obi, but I'll start with the replicas of the real stuff first.
I forgot how much I love this saber. Is it just me, or do you find your tastes "mature" as you collect? Now that I'm starting over, I find that I dislike ALL the prequel sabers- especially Obi-Wan's. And I used to be obsessed with them! And I no longer want the ESB Luke Graflex- I want his ANH and Obi-Wan's ANH. The two "original sabers". That's it. Weird. And at first, I wanted the "idealized" saber that I used to have- like what the characters would have had- but quickly discovered I preferred the "movie prop look" with weird wires and all.
The stand is black delrin- I made it at work- but I need smaller button cap hex screws. And I machined the transistors, though I'm looking to get real ones there.
