My Nostromo EVA Suit Project

Firstly, condolences regarding the loss of your mother. Losing a loved one is never an easy thing to deal with. Glad you have returned to your hobby as that can often be an excellent source of dealing with stress that life throws us. Hope you are doing well these days.

I have just discovered your build thread and I am glad I came across it. Your build is exceptional!!! Well done on all of your excellent progress. I have 3D printed and finished all the armor parts of the suit myself awhile back. I have been putting off making the soft parts as I have very little experience with working with fabric. Nice to find someone in a similar situation as mine and to see you go so well. Gives me more motivation to make a start.

Do you by any chance have any patterns that you used for your suit? Would love to see them.

Also, how did you make that white ring that the helmet sits on?

Thanks again for your kind words about My build. I encourage you to continue your project, I can't tell you that the road is easy, but it is gratifying to create something and even more so this space suit that is rare to see and for me an icon of cinema that has been somewhat forgotten, without it there would be no plot for the film XD

For the patterns I used a pair of pants and a loose sweatshirt that I had at home and on the same yellow fabric, I marked it with chalk. My imagination played an important role. I'm not very good at sewing, this is the first time I've dared to do something of this magnitude. I thought I would collapse early, which I did, this project was too big for me. You have to think very carefully about how to sew before using the sewing machine. What I did was use blue thread and sew by hand with widely separated stitches, that way you get an idea if you try on the garment you're making, if it's wide, if it's narrow and so you can correct that basting (I think that's the word they use in the world of sewing).

For the ring where the helmet sits, I used a foam tube, the thickness I saw was the most similar to the photos I have for reference. I found it at the hardware store, they actually sold it for the bottom of the front door, to keep cold air out in winter.

Thanks heaps for the response! Much appreciated. That's an awesome idea about the door seal for the helmet ring. I never would have thought about that. I'll definitely give that a shot for my build too. I made a bit of a start on my sewing but it's such slow progress lol. That idea with the blue thread will help heaps too. Love your progress mate. And finally, because I have run out of material to continue with the shin guards on the pants, but once all this is sewn, all that remains is to finish the inside of the helmet and a little weathering on all the pieces and fabrics.

I need to sew a white trim around the dark yellow ribbon that borders the calf of the pants leg and sew everything together so it looks like one piece.
 
Hi, I'm still here. I finally got the white border to sew on because I was short on what I had from a previous project.

So after having the above I decided on the pockets of the pants, I started with the back one, it was the easiest :lol:, since the front ones required more information, because I didn't know how to make them and I looked for a video on YouTube to learn how to make the seams correctly and keep their shape with pleats.

Now the next step would be all the straps, buckles and completing the interior of the helmet which is still blank without paint or greeblies.

Socker what diameter skylight dome did you end up going with?
Also, are the 'HAWK engine model from Space 1999' bits identified parts on the original prop, or just bits you thought looked about right / good enough?

thanks septic, yes I use HAWK¨engine model, because y see this parts in the original helmet rom The Propstore pictures y can find.

The dome diameter I should measure you and tell you... now I don't remember exactly.

This weekend I had a convention near where I live that I attend annually and collaborate with them and I decided to wear my Nostomo costume, it was not completely finished, but it still needs some minimal details... but the truth is that after all this time working on this project, I wanted to wear it and see the vaivility of this build at a convention and the result has been great but I need more air intake, a fan or something similar to help me so that so that so much humidity does not concentrate inside the dome of the helmet and I can breathe and see without so many problems, I have to thank my Ghostbusters group who supported me and helped me in the assembly and assembly of the entire suit, because I would not have been able to dress or pass through some doors of the convention hotel by myself.
