My newest prop/real gun

I agree, nice pistol.

I have a WWII issue Remington-Rand made M1911-A1. I sort of have a thing for the vintage 'civilain contract' stuff. LOL.

Very nice addition to your collection.
I've heard nothing but good about Springfield Armory's .45's.

I have a nickel-plated Colt Mk80 from the days of Colt's worst quality control. It is inaccurate as hell, BUT, it will put every round in a paper plate at 10 yards which is about the furthest distance any where in my house. I used a lot of different ammo in it and get an occasional stovepipe except with WWII era steel case, copper FMJ; which has never failed. I love the way the 1911 handles.

All-in-all a most excellent purchase.

While we are on the subject of 1911s. Did they make these for left handed use as well? What I mean is was the ejection port on the top of the slide oriented for lefties so casings wouldn't fly up into their faces?

I noticed while watching Hellboy the other night that the Sgt leading the US soldiers seems to have a left handed version...[/b]
Colt did (does?) make a left-handed model but you'd almost never see them without having to be special ordered.

BTW, I'm left-handed & I've never once had a problem with my Colt ejecting the casings anywhere even close to my face.

Nice grips & mag funnel imo. :D

Is that a Chip McCormick 'Shooting Star' magazine? Cuz that's what mine is.

You know, i dont know what that mag is. It is unmarked. The other one i have is silver in color and its a J&J. And yeah gotta love pachmayr.

Left-Handed 1911A1 Pistols?

Basically you can get a left-side thumb safety, but that's about it. Like some others on this thread, I've shot mine lefthanded without the leftside safety and had few issues. In fact, the ejection port on these guns is sometimes not very consistent (when the gun warms up, you can sometimes get shells going every which way). Remember these were made to be manufactured in bulk, a LONG time ago - when there wasn't much sensitvity to handedness.

The only real weirdness, is that my left handed firing was a bit weak as that's not my strong arm (being right-handed).

I have wanted one of these forever. I started out with a cheapo airsoft, but it just didn't fill my desire like I wanted it to. So I sold some props in the junkyard and bought this:

It is a real Springfield Armory 1911 .45 caliber, old GI style.

Congratulations, great acquisition. :thumbsup. The beloved .45 Goverment model is, by far, my favorite handgun

Here's my little treasure, haven't done much to it, other then shoot it ;) I did add the grips, and thumb protection piece, along with an extended Slide release.

Grips are Pachmayr, as is the Mag in the picture, I have 3 of the Pachmyrs, 3 GI Issue Mags and the Springfield Mag that came with the weapon.

I picked it up in the mid '90s And haven't regretted it once. although, I have to admit, I'm liking the newer version, and it's more basic markings. The Original stocks on this baby was simple black plastic ones, No US marking.
