I have wanted one of these forever. I started out with a cheapo airsoft, but it just didn't fill my desire like I wanted it to. So I sold some props in the junkyard and bought this:

It is a real Springfield Armory 1911 .45 caliber, old GI style.

I'm dying to go shoot it, got it Tuesday and haven't had time yet. I plan on going in the morning. :D

NICE. I love those grips too. And everything that comes from Springfield Armory is top drawer.

Timeless design. I carried one of those for about 3 years during one tour with base security. Solid, consistent and easy to maintain.

Oh... and nice pictures. ;)

I LOVE the grips that came on it. The US engraving is VERY cool.

aint nothing as much fun as a 45 acp, a BIG hunk of slow moving lead. :angel

it wont go through a tree but it will knock it over. :lol

my CC pistol is a 45 glock.

there are so many options for a 1911 also, up to a rifle barrel stocked upper that fits the 1911 lower.

i had a friend that was a mp in Korea that said he shot a man in the hand with one and he spun around three times before he hit the ground. :thumbsup

john :cool

I applaud Springfield for releasing these again. I got a Kimber .45 last year, which has been nothing but a whole lot of fun. But this Springfield is truly vintage. Congrats.

While we are on the subject of 1911s. Did they make these for left handed use as well? What I mean is was the ejection port on the top of the slide oriented for lefties so casings wouldn't fly up into their faces?

I noticed while watching Hellboy the other night that the Sgt leading the US soldiers seems to have a left handed version...

They are around $480-$500 brand new. They are really neat, have a couple of safety features besides being able to decock and the the grip safety. It comes with a key that you can "lock" the gun from a small hole in the back of the handle, and where you can see if there is a round in the chamber by looking inbetween the barrel/ejector port and the slide.

I bet that's just the editing. IE they flipped it around in post for a mirror image to flow better and whatnot. Happens all the time.
Although I'm not a wrong arm so I don't pay attention to anything like that. :p

Have always loved these things in all their variations.

I have one of the Colts from when they were trying to get their act together a few years ago, not bad at all.

Colt did (does?) make a left-handed model but you'd almost never see them without having to be special ordered.

BTW, I'm left-handed & I've never once had a problem with my Colt ejecting the casings anywhere even close to my face.

Edit for pix:

I have an older one of these babies, a Sweet little purchase I do not regret at all...

You'll have years of fun throwing lead through it..

Thanks guys, you all make me feel even better about my purchase. I have read such good things about this gun, did my homework before I bought it.

I am taking off work tomorrow so I can shoot it. :)

Nexus6, interesting about Colt, the only left-handed .45 I have ever heard about is the Randall ( http://www.gun-stop.com/randalhistory.html ). Unfortunately they didn't last long, and are pretty scarce.

I'm a south paw myself and use a 1919A1 Colt Combat Commander, and have no problem with the saftey, although I may get an ambi one put on someday. I love mine, it has never jammed, and it puts the bullet right where I want it. It is heavy, but then it doesn't buck that much because of it.

In only use fmj factory ammo. It costs more, but the full metal jacket is better for the barrel, and I once watched a friend spend a couple hours peeling the lead from range reloads out of the rifling of his Beretta's barrel. :eek Not having to have that experience makes the added cost worth it. :lol

David.

Looks very similar to the Browning L9A1. I always liked it. Eventually they gave me a Walther P5 which threw me completely as I could never get used to the spent casings being ejected to the left.

You have a very smart weapon there with a lot of pedigree.
