My Modified Revell X-Wing

Hi everyone,

Here's my first entry into the Star Wars modeling world, a roughly 1/24 scale Revell X-Wing. The completed kit out of the box can be seen here.

Well, that's not a bad model, but I wanted one that looked more like one from the movies. So I weathered it a bit, did a lot of work on the cockpit, and came up with a (IMO) nice model to display on my shelf, and it didn't really cost me that much - a big deal for a college kid. :lol So, here are the pics:

First off, a look at the weathering. I went for faded wing markings as opposed to the more common "dinged-up" approach. I think it turned out well. DISCLAIMER: The faded wing marks have nothing to do with an over usage of paint thinner. None whatsoever. :)

Here are some rather poor pictures of the cockpit detailing. I really like how this turned out, even if it's not exactly canonically accurate. I used some Bismarck battleship parts, and even found a part that looks like a targeting computer! Take a look!

That's all for now, folks. I hope you like my customized Revell X-Wing. :):lol

Jm,

That bottom photo showing the overall look is nice. Not too much weathering, but enough to know it's a used piece of equipment. :thumbsup

It's almost impossible to see anything in the cockpit shots though. Have you got a 'macro' setting on your camera? That will let you focus much closer. You might try a small tripod (or even a small bean bag) to help with sharpness.

Nice repaint, heaps better than the OOB job!

Cheers, JT

Thanks, lol. I'll get some updated pictures in here pretty quickly.

The model is nearly 10" long on the fuselage, so it's about 1/24. Not exactly, but it's close.

I do believe that the SS 1/24 miniatures fuselages were 19.75 - 20 inches so that would make the Revell at about 1/48th I think.

Ok guys (and gals), I have two new pics. Hopefully these'll be clearer...I even used a super duper high tech LED lighting device for the first photo...a mini Maglite. :lol Anyway, hopefully these are a little cleaner.

Really? I thought the X-Wing was about 21 feet long.

A quick way to check is put a 1/24th scale person mext to it and see how huge they are compared to the kit I think someone posted in the SS section that the X-Wings are supposed to be 41 feet long.

I could be wrong but I dont think so. I am sure that everyone considers the SS versions to be 1/24 scale.

Lol, nope, you're right. I went on Wookiepedia and checked, the T65 X-Wing is 16 meters long - about 41, 42 feet.
