My Mal Reynolds (Firefly) costume

The browncoat is on hold because I want to make it from deerskin like the original, and at the moment the leather would cost somewhere upwards of $300. I like it this way anyway, as it's cooler to wear in California weather and it shows off the suspenders.
 
Risu you did an outstanding job. I never gave much thought to doing the boots. I always was fine with my costume just having brown boots, but yours have changed my mind. They really make your costume, go from very, very, good, to "Hey just saw Mal from firefly" "No realy it looks like he just walked off the screen". :)
 
Elk? That's weird...both Shawna Trpcic and Jonathan Logan have always maintained that it was deerskin.
 
Having seen both types of hide in person, I can say that it would take a leather expert to definitively tell the difference, and while Logan MAY be one, the stuff could have been labeled wrong by somebody else and he assumed the label was right.

Would you be open to me PM'ing you about some costume help? I'm also trying to put together a Mal costume and your guidance would be much appreciated. (I've looked at so many threads over the last month, I can't begin to tell you how dead most links are now for firefly costumes...sigh).

I am trying to build up sources and links for all firefly costumes.
if you guys know of any I would love to add them to my Forums "The 'Verse" a Firefly/serenity costume club - Login . We are pretty new, so we dont have a ton of stuff, but its building up nicely..

right I have been researching 'Jayne's" costumes(because thats mine :) ) and I now have some real good stuff on there now. I need help with the others.

I been finding a lot of sites with costume parts for sale, but like you said, majority of the links are now dead. I am hoping to find new sources and get as much as I can in one place.

everyone is welcome to check it out. add tutorials or links if you like.
I always thought it would be nice to have firefly costumers all in one place.. kinda like the 501st, but with firefly.

I don't want to take this thread away from Risu anymore than I feel I have, but seriously thank you, OutlawCrix, for posting that. I'd run across your board in my search but hadn't signed up. I'm in there now. Hopefully, we can pool some great resources!

Risu, I just sent a PM. Thank you again for your willingess to help. I love your costume. And those boots especially are killer.

I dont have a ton of stuff over there yet... its tough, finding so many dead links :( but I am finding some stuff.

I got Jayne coming along nicely
