My Mad Hatter Thread - Mickey's Trick Or Treat 10-29-2010

Re: My Mad Hatter - W. I. P. Pant lace updates 02-03-10

So the bias trim down the side of the pants. You opinions? The SDCC picture shows it is about 1-1 1/2 inches from the seam where the lace is inserted. Does it run that way all the way up to the waist or does it slowly move over to the seam?

Haven't seen any good pics other than SDCC. Even the Medicom figure doesn't have the seam.

Oh boy!

Now for the stitched flower!

Oh boy!

I didnt go the gusset route just flared the bottoms.
also i went with leather not lace up the side of the pants along the seamline
up to the pockets.

i cant wait to see it on display at the EL CAPITAN
so i can dial in all the details.

Re: My Mad Hatter - W. I. P. Pant lace updates 02-03-10

yeah i just belled the bottoms too, im thinking im gonna leave them like that cause im afraid adding the gusset may ruin the look
and mine already bell just perfectly that there really doesn't seem necessary

Re: My Mad Hatter - W. I. P. Pant lace updates 02-03-10

Since this is a Mad Hatter progress thread...I hope you don't mind, CJS, that I derail is to blurb about my own here and there. :) I have a starting-a-new-thread-phobia. Especially when there's already 2 AiWs on the go...

The coat is on the way!
newcoat.jpg

The vest still needs to be tea-dyed ( HA! I love that it just makes so much SENSE to tea dye it! Ha ha! ) and have the buttons put on, but I love the look of it! So proud my work paid off...Chad was right!! :D The coat is obviously a WIP, need to re-do the right sleeve since the satin has a bit of stretch to it and decided to scrumple while I sewed...It all looks so shiny and piratey atm so I'm really anticipating grubbing it up and putting all of the detailing on!

hathat.jpg

Added the moldy furry fuzz to the side of the hat. Such a small detail but I LOVE how it turned out! It's so fuzzy and....stuff. I planned on repainting the hat and putting in all the proper embroidery ( you can see I started some in the front already, then got lazy...and before I decided I wanted to pull it all out to repaint it all ) but I don't think I'll have time to get that far...I do have, though, a beautiful dusty rose salmony pink for a new band! It's not in that pic but...well...I have it cut out... >_> That's about it for that.

and WE BOUGHT CONTACTS! For $30. And I'm VERY pleased with them! I have high hopes after photoshopping them onto a Halloween picture lol. Obviously I know they'll be a bit different in person but they are a medium lime green with black rims. I know the specifics of the Hatters, one green one brown and green, one pupil slightly off center....but I can NOT afford custom ones. Especially for the use they'll get. And in the film shots they look pretty solid. Anyways, here's what I'm hoping they'll sort of look like:

We got them here if anyone else is interested in an affordable and quite good looking pair! Free shipping!

Waiting on Trav to bring the pants back to put the ribbon down the side...

Oh, and new wig on the way! HooraY!

and that's all! :D

Re: My Mad Hatter - W. I. P. Pant lace updates 02-03-10

I wanted to get contacts like these, but since I have a prescription I had to go the route of getting cheaper---yet my correct size and perscription(a phrase which here means "not entirely spooky but instead just plain lime green") So until I have the 150$ to spare for another exam and such I'm sticking with these. I'm going for a "realistically insane" look, and since JD said in an interview that his eyes are supposed to mimic the amount of poison in him from the Mercury, I'm pretty happy with what I have. Here's a pic incase none of Y'all have seen, and I know My makeup isn't technically correct, but now that I know what I'm doing I can do it properly.

Re: My Mad Hatter - W. I. P. Pant lace updates 02-03-10

Chad, I like your contacts!! The main thing is that they're noticeably green. Travis has Depp-brown eyes so the ones we ordered for Halloween that were more natural, the brown just devoured them and they were pretty much not noticable at all, hence why we needed something opaque and bright. Especially since he has touching-the-eyes-phobia, he didn't want to get another pair that wouldn't be seen after a million hours trying to get them in. =\

Padawan, most of the holes are cut, I drew the little ones on since I have no actual way of punching leather ( or synthetic ), So it's a combo. :) The fuzzy was made by brushing out the edges of a piece of auburn fleece, pulling off all the fuzzy parts until I had a nice pile of fluff, putting some fabric glue on the hat, smearing it around, waiting til it got tacky and then stretching and patting the fuzz over it! Your hat is coming along great!!!

How the heck is it that you guys punch out the leather for all your hats???

Aelynn, as soon as you get those contacts, let me know! I'd love to have a pair! :D

Evryone looks so darn good, I'm jealous of evryone! :D

*runs out of UM's thread* :lol :p ;)

Re: My (Hijacked) Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. Pants done! 02-10-10

awesome, i think i have some fleece laying around i could try

as for the holes, the fabric i used is like a Vinyl so it melts pretty easy
all i did was use a wood burner
then for the uber tiney micro holes i used a blow tourch to heat up the end of a pin and punched it with that

im not sure how that will work with leather though
if you used a thin glove leather that would be best

Re: My (Hijacked) Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. Pants done! 02-10-10

UM! I'M SORRY FOR HIJACKING YOUR THREAD!!! I feel so bad now! D: But...I still laughed. Heh heh!

Padawan, mine's a soft vinyl too!! That's such a good idea with the wood burner! I used to have one but I don't think I do anymore...I wonder how much they cost new nowadays?

Will post pics of the contacts as soon as we get'em!

I don't really like the fake teeth though. I think cause Johnnys is so obviously a painted black gap...the real gap just looks...well. I shouldn't say it here cause that would be bad of me. But I say stick with painting it! I posted elsewhere a rubies black tooth paint, its only 2 bucks and works super well!! Stays on through eating/drinking and you can scratch it off with your nails to perfect the shape or width of it. Scratches/brushes off. :)

Re: My (Hijacked) Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. Pants done! 02-10-10

well give it a shot
i got a basic wood burner set at wallmart for 10 bucks and it was the best 10 bucks i ever spent

and yeah please tell us
i really like them but i dont want to buy them unless i know there good you know

Re: My (Hijacked) Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. Pants done! 02-10-10

This is an AWSOME Thread... Keep it up!!!:love:thumbsup

Re: My (Hijacked) Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. Pants done! 02-10-10

I would like to point out that the woodburner was my idea, and if I hadn't suggested it padawan would still be in the dark ages.
(hehehehehe)

Re: My (Hijacked) Mad Hatter Thread - W. I. P. Pants done! 02-10-10

Thank you Chad! :D Do you get them in the Hardware or crafts section? My WM doesnt have a crafts section anymore so I may be on the hunt tomorrow.... I wonder if I can do it ON the hat...I glued down the vinyl the first time I made it...I can just see me setting it on fire and running back and forth with a flaming hat trying to extinguish it. Did you just use wood as a base while doing the burning?

TMP, of course it is! We're all mad here! :D

And a little update but big accomplishment! Ch-ch-ch-check it out! The difference in my yarn before and after my resourceful 'dye' job!
