My Iron Man Mark VI (pics + Video on pg4)

Re: My Iron Man Mark VI (pics)

Thanks for all the positive comments guys, its what keeps me going to get this finished!
I've finished Fiberglassing the suit and i've already added Body filler to the boots and the arc reactor. I've also added the electrics to the Arc Reactor! It nearly blinded me they are so bright!

I'll get a picture up soon of the progress. I should have a few more pieces body fillered by tomorrow.

Re: My Iron Man Mark VI (pics)

I've just bought £50 worth of P38 Body filler today from Halfords today.

They asked "Why the hell do you need all this body filler?"
I said i'm building an "Iron Man suit"

Next thing i know i've got the whole of the staff at Halfords looking at pics on my phone of my progress lol.....

I should have most of the suit Body fillered in the next couple days.

The only part i'm going to struggle with is the motor for the faceplate on the helmet........hmm....no idea where to start.

You mean you have no idea what part your going to start with the body filler? I've never used it before and if you haven't either maybe you should start on parts furthest away from the eye so that way you can get better with your techniques as you move closer to the helmet. Just my opinion

Re: My Iron Man Mark VI (pics)

Yer thats the plan :) - I'm leaving the helmet till last.

I've body fillered the chest piece, back. neck piece, arms and arc reactor. I've gone through so much body filler its unreal!

Re: My Iron Man Mark VI (pics)

I've body fillered most the suit still need to do a few things. Just got a sander so thought i'd test it out on the boots first. Takes a hell of a lot of doing to be honest.

This suit is gonna take a while.... :(

Damn that looks like a lot of work.. but I suppose that's why the finished project is so rewarding :)

Re: My Iron Man Mark VI (pics)

Yer I have put too much Bondo on the suit. This stuff just doesn't spread as good as i was hoping. I've used tub after tub but the end result should still be fine.

Worldsfinest - I bought the hand gauntlets (in foam) from ebay since the ones i made from card were rubbish

Re: My Iron Man Mark VI (pics)

Quick update guys.
The upper body is pretty much complete. Still need to sand the abs/code piece and add body filler to a few places on the chest and back but i'm pretty happy with the fitting. This is the first time i've tried the upper half of the body.

Let me know what you guys think! Video Link below:

Hey mate your build looks amazing so far, i'm at a similar point with my pep build. If you work out a way of doing the helmet mechanism then i'd love some help. There's a guy on here and on youtube goes by the name of xrobots. His hinge mechanism is amazing, In fact his whole suit is amazing. He'd been constructing it for the last two years and has a whole intricate exoskeleton that everything connects onto. I think most people i've seen doing the mechanised face plate end up using a Arduino chip connected to servos that move a hinge up and down. Apparently they are fairly easy to program and pretty cheap too but I have no experience really in programming and coding. HobbyTronics | Arduino
