My home made GB costume in local paper for halloween.

Re: Ghosterbusters costume for under $300.00 Possible?

I have spent the last few nights going over different forums and threads, studying pictures, and watching the movies. I have studied plans and I think todate I have read through about 12-13 different building threads. I am almost ready to start building. My folks are visiting from England at the moment they leave Friday, so that will give me a few more days to get everything together then once they go I will start building.
Thanks for all the great advice and tips.
stay tuned

Re: Ghosterbusters costume for under $300.00 Possible?

I think enough people have chimed in but I'll give my two cents.

The main thing people are going to see is the pack, so I would recommend focusing on that. You can make a pretty convincing and durable one out of foam and paper mâché, which is what I did in college. You will most likely need to put in continuous LEDs as getting them to blink gets a little pricy

Re: Ghosterbusters costume for under $300.00 Possible?

HELP!! I am trying to figure out what the differences are between a LC-1 and LC-2 alice frame. And if I can use an LC-2 Alice frame for this build.

Re: Ghosterbusters costume for under $300.00 Possible?

Ok just bought my LC-1 Alice frame with straps. Ordered my personalised name patch and No Ghosts patch.
Total so far $60.00

Re: Ghosterbusters costume for under $300.00 Possible?

Looking forward to seeing this progress. Been wanting to do this myself since seeing a guy on here who did a dollar store proton pack. Don't forget to share links to where you bought everything. ;)

Re: Ghosterbusters costume for under $300.00 Possible?

ok good point on the links, well the patch's I bought from someone on ebay they were highly reckomended to me both here and at the GBfans website. eBay My World - katarra8 this link should take you to her ebay store.
The Alice pack was a find from a friend on FaceBook, he got it for me at a army surplus store in toronto somewhere.
DO you have a link to the dollar store protn pack thread?.

Re: Ghosterbusters costume for under $300.00 Possible?

I don't know if you can ever achieve screen-accuracy, but I had a lot of luck just using dollar store and found objects for my daughter's proton pack two years ago. You're a MASTER of using found objects and since this thread is about Ghostbusters on the cheap I thought you might be interested in a couple pics of what I did for her pack.

NOTE: This is scaled for an 8yr old.

Some of the items I remember would be the two halves of the toilet role holder, an electrical box, two flutes (orange and green), the pink handle of a fairy wand and lots of bottle caps.

Again some of the items here are kazues (orange and yellow), another flute (cut short), a water bottle top... and a few more pen caps and bottle tops.

This is another part of the pack. I used another electrical box, poker chips, two pencils, a check box, a pen and a tic-tac container.

More items... two sections of PVC, a small card board box, a purple soap travel holder and a juice bottle cap. The green box and wires were a small battery powered set of LED Christmas lights I used to light up the row of blue power lights on the pack.

Here's shot of the main section of the pack with the wand set nearby (all ready to paint). The wand was made of some wood scraps, a dowel rod, foam board, and other random bits and pieces.

OK, so here's the post-painting version with some old computer wires I had laying around and a bit of rub-n-buff to create that weathered or scuffed paint look...

And here is the same pack with the LED lights on...

And here is a look at the goggles I whipped up to go with the costume...

It was a lot of fun to build and very, very cheap. :thumbsup

Good luck with your build - I'm sure yours will be 100% cooler! I can't wait to see what you create!!!

Very impressive my friend. I just love your work.
My wife took my Parents to the airport today Airport is 2 hours away and she is going to do some shopping while in the city, so I have found myself with a bit of free time today. So I just spent the last 2 hours putting this together. Hope you guys like it.

Re: Ghosterbusters costume for under $300.00 Possible?

Ok so spent a little while this morning doing a bit more on the pack, not a lot (Saturday is laundry day). I also went digging through some boxes in the basement, ( I don't like to throw anything I might be able to use away and so keep it all tidy in boxes to keep the wife happy) I found an old black vacume hose. Score!!.

I've subscribed to your thread. You're foam and found-object pack is going to be a great project to watch! :):thumbsup

Ha, that sounds familiar, MrFoxx here is actually #2 in a set of 6, lol, and I'm still trying to blackmail my younger siblings into doing a Sex Bob-Omb Cosplay...

Re: Ghosterbusters costume for under $300.00 Possible?

Small update, the hose is to thick I am going to the city in a few days and hoping to pick up a thinner one.

Re: Ghosterbusters costume for under $300.00 Possible?

As a guy who trooped with an accurate sandtrooper pack for a number of years, all I can say is kudos for making that bad boy out of foam!!! Your shoulders will thank you.

Re: Ghosterbusters costume for under $300.00 Possible?

LOL, I have a lower back problem and slight curviture of the spine so there was no way I could build a wooden one. I do have to add a thin piece of wood to the mother board, just so I can fix it onto the alice frame well.

Re: Ghosterbusters costume for under $300.00 Possible?

did a little bit more this morning. Work on the Cyclotron, I have made it removable at the moment so when I get the lights I can easily install them.
