I’ve been working on a budget Xenomorph Halloween costume, and have managed to rope a few friends into being the crew of the Nostromo. So that Ripley can look the part, I decided to make a flamethrower, but have tried to make it entirely from scrap and bits that I already had around the house. I ended up buying the two gas bottles for about a dollar each, and also spent a couple of bucks on some white acrylic paint. I know most folk here go for super screen accurate, but I’ve taken quite a few creative liberties! As it’s just a Halloween costume rather than something for a convention, I think it just needs to evoke the feeling rather than being 100% accurate. I made a conscious choice to have grips which looked nothing like the ones in the movie, because I’ve always disliked that part of the design.
The main body was made from cardboard and a soda bottle for the back tube, with details / greebles added using LEGO bricks, pen lids, craft foam, some tubes, some pencils, a broken calculator and a few other random bits of junk.
I’m really pleased with how this looks, considering I’ve spent next to nothing on it!
