You're welcome. If I can help out in anyway let me know.
Here's a bit more on the shin, I have decided to stop for the night. it is curently 28c but with the humidex it is 38c which is 100 fahrenheit!, way to hot to be doing anything right now.

Re: Another ironman foam build yup sorry another one. PAINTING FOAM HELMET!..

Wow thanks. Um I have found a few things that help me. not sure if they will help anyone else though. But here you go.
Use a nice new blade for important cuts, cuts that will be seen most. Once they start getting dull save them for non major cuts and parts. I find a a blade is normaly good for about 10-15 nice clean cuts before needing to be change. I change size and sharpness of blade alot depending on what piece I am cutting.
A metal ruler is a foam cutters best friend!. A metal ruler really helps when needing to cut at an angle.
Do 2 or 3 ligh cuts instead of trying to cut though the foam in one go.
Also for the main lines (front of costume) when glueing use superglue!, it allows you to get cleaner seems. Don't try glueing the whole thing in one go, just do it inch by inch, wipe off any glue that bleeds out right away or it will eat into the foam where you don't want it to. I have to spend about 30 minutes at the end of every day peeling superglue of my fingers. but I woulds rather do that then have to try and cut the beeds of glue on the armor that have bleed through.
I hope this helps. Oh a big push towards cutting at an angle both pieces that need to be glued together they will make for a much better seem.

You do have very sharp and clean seams.

Re: Another ironman foam build yup sorry another one. PAINTING FOAM HELMET!..

WARNING!, lately I have been saying how great superglue works,, well no it doesn't!. I have found that in colder weather the seems glued seems just crack and split, and if you bend down or make any movement that puts even a little stress on the superglued seems, the thing will break apart!. So I have just spent the afternoon remaking the lower legs, and will spend the weekend redoing the thighs. Man I hate this, but it is a good reason to go back and redo them seeing as I wasn't fully excited about the thigh's anyway.
Good night!.

Re: Another ironman foam build yup sorry another one. PAINTING FOAM HELMET!..

I was using hot glue for everything, but ran out of sticks for a while so tried superglue, it seemed to be working great, but oh well, Luckily I found more hot glue, it only put me back about 2 days. All part of the learning process, and I kinda wanted to redo the thighs anyway, this just helped me do to go ahead and do it.

Re: Another ironman foam build yup sorry another one. PAINTING FOAM HELMET!..

Thanks guys that means a lot. Haven't done anything else for the past week, been busy cleaning house, My folks and Aunty ae visiting all the way from back home in England, they arive this Sunday and I have been busy around the house. Plus my wrists are getting worse. I can not wait for the surgeries. (Having carpal tunnel surgery done on both wrists sometime in the next few months, Also having a partial knee replacement before the end of the year!, man I am only 37!!).
But I am hoping to get more done once my folks go back home next week. As always I will post something new when I have it.
Thanks again for the kind words, they really help. Sometimes I look around at everyone elses work and wonder why I am even bothering with this. You guys always help me stay positive, thanks.

Re: Another ironman foam build yup sorry another one. PAINTING FOAM HELMET!..

Ok so this build has to go on hold for about 6 months!! Sorry guys, but I started work on the waist area and realised that I would look like a fat Ironman, more like a Iron Santa Clause. I unfortunately have a bit too much personal padding around my stomach area. And I feel that if I continued to make the costume I would either have to A) make it to fit my current size and it would look awefull. Or 2) Try and make it the way it should look and not be able to test fit anything or wear it.
So I have hung up what I have so far and it will be used to give me motivation to loose the weight or rather the inch's I need. Sorry to all those who have subscribed to this thread and thank you to everyone who has helped out and given me great words of encouragement. BUT I will be back on this soon. Meanwhile I will be continuing to build and post here, I am not going anywhere, I just have to leave this build for a while.

Re: Another ironman foam build yup sorry another one. PAINTING FOAM HELMET!..

Sorry to hear this. The legs look amazing. Maybe I can pick up some ideas for the cyberman costume.

Re: Another ironman foam build yup sorry another one. PAINTING FOAM HELMET!..

Best of luck to you on the losing inches, I am starting the same process for myself and my son as my wife and I are worried he is letting himself go as I have so hopefully we can turn ourselves around. I myself am working on a Batman concept and don't want to look like "Fatman" LOL. Good luck and good health to you.

Re: Another ironman foam build yup sorry another one. PAINTING FOAM HELMET!..

Thanks guys, again I appreciate the kind words. I will be back to this real soon. Just need to drop a few inches. It is good motivation. I can still work on the feet and the hands I guess. But I like to do things in a certain order and normaly leave those till last.
