Muppet/ Sesame Street songs..

has there ever been a documentary on how they did the music for fraggle rock or sesame street?
I've always been curious about the recording sessions and how they tried to not only make the songs educational, but also
interesting enough to not make the adults bored...

also...
Every now and then, I'll notice an 80's song that sounds pretty close in tune to a fraggle rock song.

But, i'm sitting here listening to verizon's golden oldies, and i noticed a few songs that kind of remind me of the sesame street them song.

The beginning of this ad libs song..

kind of sounds a little like the beginning of sesame street.. at least the classic opening from the 60s..

I know there are only so many ways you can arrange notes, but i wonder if any of these songs of the time influenced the sesame street theme or any of it's other music..

Interesting topic. Decided to look on wikipedia a bit and found:
there's almost surely some connection, although it's most likely a six degrees of separation thing.

Boy from New York City was written by Leiber and Stoller who wrote a ton of the great 60's hits, also worked briefly with Jeff Barry who went on to write TV theme songs. BTW: the Leiber and Stoller list of credits is, to say the least, impressive: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Leiber_and_Mike_Stoller

The Beach Boys wrote a response song "Girl from new York City." and according to Wikipedia, "Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street" opening riff is a play on "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys.

So..A inspired C in the sense that A led to B which led to C and also C probably knew about A as well. If that makes sense (A + B = C, C -1 = A)


I love stuff like this. Art is always a product of what came before it and it's fun to see the connections.

I actually never heard the original "Sesame Street" song before. It's interesting. The German "Sesamstraße" has a completely different opening song. This is the song that I have grown up with (they replaced it in 2013):

A lot of the music on Sesame Street was written by Joe Raposo -- "Bein' Green", "Sing!", "C is for Cookie", "Doin' the Pigeon", "It's a Long, Long, Climb", all the songs that really are the "sound" of the show including the Theme song as AJT points out. Years ago I remember seeing a really interesting documentary about him and his music. I took a look on youtube and couldn't find it but it's got to be out there somewhere.
