This is my version of the Spacecraft called Satellite of love or SOL for short.
It from the wonderful series Mystery Science Theater 3000. If you new to it here is a sample :YouTube - MST3K Agent for HARM Montage

With the help of the papercraft program Pepakura, I first printed it on thick paper and cut it out and glued it together.
Then i coated the inside of the model with polyester resin. It went Ok considering i had never worked with resin before.:thumbsup
After it had dried i coated the outside also.

Then i filled it with expandable foam. Also the the first time i used it.

I used Epoxy glue and metal rods to attach it together.

As you can see it's a big model :17" long

The center rod is not attached yet because i need to build a few thing before final fitting.

I have added the small frames around some of the tiles.
Also for the first time i have used RTV silicone and made molds of Modelparts and used Polyurethane casting resin also for the first time :)
This is only the first 2 casting i have made and i think i will need some more.

My version of Sol is going to be a blend of the 2 version:

Re: Wip MST3K: satellite of Love

id love to have one, if you decide to cast it up when you're finished!
looks great!

Re: Wip MST3K: satellite of Love

Very cool! :thumbsup

You may want to do a little dry brushing once the ship is complete to really bring out the detail.

Re: Wip MST3K: satellite of Love

Looking great!! So how mutch foam did you get on your hands before you put on the gloves? Some really nasty stuff huh?:lol

I'm wondering how he eats and breathes. And other science facts.

Yeah, thats what im planning to do. I am also going to add a few details from all the pictures i have seen on the Millenium Falcon like the asteroid damage. (Going to use the casted parts that got wasted with airbubbles)
Im also going to use styrene rods and thin copper wire to make all kinds of details.

:lol I have read and reread all the instruction and all of RPF's own experiences and faults before using all of the things. So was lucky not to get anything on me :)
I did however not make many airholes on the tubes so they ended up being alittle roundish. Thats a lesson i learned for the next time.

Today im going to do a little more casting and use bondo on a few places.

Beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have to jump on buying a casting to go with my Tom and Crow....if I ever finish them...LOL

Re: Wip MST3K: satellite of Love

That brings back memories, the one I did for my MST3K flick was about double the size:

Lots and lots of legos. Yours looks a lot more like an accurate TV version.

Testfitted the center tube with the side tube that holds the hands of Manos.

This part should have been round as a ball but i could not find a ball for the size i wanted. However I belive that Mike's SOL model do have this design.

Re: Wip MST3K: satellite of Love

I been giving my satellite some love and added some of the greeble's that i have casted and been diving into my boxes of modelparts. I been looking at pictures of the Starwars Y wing for inspiration.

The Manos Pod got some nice details
