I was asked by my friend Stuart, the owner of ASHTON MODELS in Ashton LANCASHIRE, to build a replica body of a train for him in plastic card, the train in question is a class 08 diesel electric shunting engine used by the old British rail company. He already had a fibre glass example of the body, hegave me the fibre glass body on loan so I used this to give me all the dimensions. Building the train was a nice change from sci fi related builds, most of the main parts are made from 80 thou plastic sheet to make sure the body was very strong. Cutting 80 thou is quite hard but it does snap very nicely after scoring a few times, There was a lot of measuring and a lot of double checking as the body sits on top of a steel chassis carrying the running gear and batteries. The gauge of the train is 5 inch gauge which is pretty BIG the track being five inches wide and the body being 28 inches long and 7 inches high and 9 inches high. Anyway have a look at the build images and the completed model in grey primer ready for its top coat of paint.
I have now left the station, regards Barrie ( the old guy leaving on platform two )
