Tamiya Spray now banned in Canada

For those that have not heard, Tamiya Spray paints are now banned in Canada, effective immediately. Stores are allowed to sell off remaining stock but it's no longer allowed to be imported. Stock being held in shipping containers at the port of entry are to be destroyed.

No reason has been given, and obviously there's nobody to contact to get more information, but the current ~rumour~ is that the SDS' were not correctly listing the chemicals in the can. Several of the hobby shops around me have already issued statements on social media.

I don't know. I'm often hearing about how California has the strictest environmental laws in North America, so I'm surprised you can still buy them there. Canadian regulations on such things are obtrusive and go way overboard, but there's a beurocrat, in an ivory tower someplace, that needs to justify their $47/hour.

So true about California. Glad I don't live there. Apparently EVERYTHING causes cancer, as most everything you buy says it caused cancer in California. Except maybe Tamiya paints.

It definitely is on the California list. I remember Tamiya had to add warnings to their paints, because of it.

I don't see anything in the news about a ban on Tamiya. :-/

give them a month or 2 and im sure they will get the formulation sorted. Not exactly rocket science.

I suppose it depends. Canada is such a small market, many companies just say 'to heck with it' and don't bother to ship here. The loss in sales is far less than the R&D cost of a new formula.

As long as the Tamiya paints in bottles are still available, and long as you have an airbrush, or even a cheap sprayer of this type…

…you should be fine.

Now to drown Trudeau in Gavin Newsom’s hair gel.

If he or Mitt Romney took a dip in the Gulf—we’d have to start spraying Corexit again…currently talking Merriman out of his camo gear…hey, we got “kit assemblers” that need screaming at…stop..Dave…
