MR TOS Enterprise - new pics

As promised . . .

I intentionally made this Beauty shot of the Enterprise between the stars darker, it appears more real and less model or toy like when done this way.

Howard, you wouldn't have to cut a hole to access the delta shield base's swtich.. just leave the original switch in the ON position, and put a SECOND switch on your second, rectangular base, to control the power going in. :D

Great idea. ;)

I just subjected mine to studio lighting and the LEDs look even MORE blue under those conditions, not less. Pics later.

summary: It has several of the minor issues that most people have reported. Overspray, a chip, slightly misaligned stripe on the secondary hull spine, multiple spots of unevenness of sheen on the clearcoat, and even some orange peel on the nacelles. And the pylon and impulse engine gaps that at this point go without saying. Also my "copper ring" is practically nonexistent.

Pros: all the lights work perfectly and the grid is close to flawless. Just a tiny bit off center on the underside but not on the top. No cracks or other serious structural issues. No peeling nacelle grids. The only light leak is around the shuttle doors, like everyone else's. Motor noise noticable but not loud. Weathering well done with possible exception noted below.

Is there supposed to be a bit of yellow/brown weathering on the secondary hull? I don't mean the streaks, but an overall overspray. If so, mine is splotchy, and if not, well, then there's a bigger problem.

I have it at work and everyone is very impressed. As am I. Still, there are enough flaws that I'm going to have to sleep on whether to exchange.

Looking at mine with the naked eye I do not see the colour you have described. Make sure itÂ’s not some kind of reflective light/colour your E is picking up from the environment around it. Try viewing your Ship in natural light, take it outside if need be.

Let us know what happens, better yet take some pictures of it and post it here, perhaps we can better determine then if this is an oddity or not.

Hey I am all in for a run of metal dishes if anyone does it. My antenna is crooked, as well. :(
BTW, my secondary hull has some large grey "weathering" streaks like you are describing, too, Treadwell.

How about a metal deflector dish? I know they sold one for the 22" ERTL cutaway over at Federation models. I really want real metal.
[/b]

I am all for that.

I thought about going to machine shop and asking how much, but I expect quite a bit for just one.

Not streaks, a general overcoating. I'm sure it's there. The big giveaway is the random areas where it ISN'T there, as if from handling right after the covering.

Before the nitpicking continues, here's how it displays rather nicely in my office:

Now with that overcoating.

It's hard to photograph but from the brightness/contrast manipulation you can see the variance. The light spots are the proper hull grey. Everything else has a brown tint.

She looks about five feet long in that shot. :lol

Beautiful tho. :D

Regards the "overcoating", I think that's some subtle weathering they're spraying onto the secondary hull.

Spotted it in mine as well but itÂ’s very subtle. As well there appears to be only a finger print sized ghosting of this thing approximately in the same area you see yours. Perhaps it is indeed their idea of weathering.

By the way, nice display. Your Enterprise completes the rest of those fine TOS collectables you have there. :thumbsup

This maybe here somewhere in this thread, but has anyone had any problems putting the deflector shield on?

It's a little tight, I found spinning it with a little pressure worked.
To play it safe might be a good idea to sand the shaft a little before forcing anything.

Also the center antenna/probe, whatever it is, is not glued into the dish all that well, so if it comes apart don't panic.

Just to document the issues with my model...

(also on starboard nacelle but I couldn't get it to photograph)

overspray on nacelle domes and bridge dome

bridgeoverspray.jpg

nacelleoverspray2.jpg

nacelleoverspray1.jpg

(note also chip in paint in above)

not shown:
minorly uncentered stripe down spine of secondary hull
minorly uncentered grid on bottom of saucer
A few tiny scuffs and nicks here and there
strut gaps (that they all have)
impulse engine sloppily fit (ditto)
shuttle bay light leak (ditto x2)

I think part of the problem with the centering of the topside grid is that the forward circular light/window detail on the top, the middle of the three windows along the leading edge, and the light/window below the bridge are ostensibly supposed to be along the same center line but they do not line up exactly. So no matter how they draw the lines something's gonna look off.

...oh, and here are the blue lights under studio lighting I mentioned:

:lol
If that diploma had said Oxford I'd have still made the same comment...

I have a less comprehensive clear coat smudge issue on my ship as well, but it really only shows up in photographs or if I purposefully try to catch the light in the right way. So I guess what I'm saying is that it's too bad that this issue is out there at all, but I write it down as minor since you almost have to go looking for it to notice it.

Treadwell,
That's some pretty heart breaking pictures of scuffs, chips, blotches. :cry

Here are a couple of my own issues with LE #92

Center-front-grid-flaw.jpg

I suppose I can live with this because it's really not that big a deal . . . still bugs me though. :angry

Ugliest-Flaw-another-view-c.jpg

This is the real heartbreak for me, such sloppy workmanship. I suppose I can fix this up myself all I need is the right paint mix and some pretty nimble fingers. Looks real bad in this picture but not from a normal distance away, and of course without the glaring lights.

I can't beleive there is still problems with this starship after the high pricetag. They look very nice but I would think perfection is in order here from MR.

That is brutal, you really should send it back. Shame on MR for sending you that POS. :angry

I received my replacement last week, I foolishly misunderstood instructions so I sent back the base by mistake with the original ship, hopeful when I get my E on the base she'll look alright, the shuttlecraft bay above looks like it was painted too thickly and with poor masking. Fingers crossed here

Agreed. That is way too much to expect a customer to accept.
