MR has rocketeer helmet for $179 (sold out)

Re: MR has rocketeer helmet for $179 right now

My looked used too, although it was just smudges on the lenses. Everything else was fine, so I'm cool with that.

Re: MR has rocketeer helmet for $179 right now

My box had also been opened. Not sure if it was a return or a spot check by customs, as my shipping box had extra signage on it indicating it was the prominent case on the pallet. Even has the address of the factory in India that made it. And lots of that Saran-wrap stuff they use on palleted bundles.

Re: MR has rocketeer helmet for $179 right now

Well I know that MR had said that they reopened all of the helmets for Quality Control after the first batch had problems, so I'm assuming ALL helmets after the first shipment had been reopened. Buuuut if they had been thrown back into the boxes the second time without care and we end up with scratched up helmets, and MR didn't state that these were basically "Close outs" and not just an awesome real deal being offered, they need to step up and do something about it. My helmet will be here on Monday, and if it's messed up, I'm taking it to Comic-Con with me and complaining, with print outs of this thread!

Here's to hoping the rest of our helmets will be in good condition!

Re: MR has rocketeer helmet for $179 right now

I ordered my helmet last Wed (the 11th) and didn't get a shipping confirmation until Tues (17th), basically a week later. So I'm sure you'll get one soon.

Ordered mine in the last hour they were up and it was delivered yesterday. Of course I wasnt home so I didn't get to open it yet. :(

Re: MR has rocketeer helmet for $179 right now

i still cant beleieve ALL of the movie helmets were resin....
that picture there looks just like dull brass

Lighting makes a HUGE difference in how the paint shines. The weathering on the helmets nearly disappears in direct sunlight (or the very bright, direct lights they would have used for filming).

The MR helmet is fairly heavy but if it was as thick as the original resin helmets, it'd be like strapping a small iron cauldron onto your head. :p

Re: MR has rocketeer helmet for $179 right now

this thread seriously needs more pics. I have yet to see anyone wear one of these.

Re: MR has rocketeer helmet for $179 right now

Well.... I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm just a tad pissed right now.

I placed an order online when they were up on sale. I think it was on the last sale offering.

I have heard JACK from MR about the order and decided to call today.

They are telling me that my order is on "pre-order".

What the hell is that about? According to the website it was in stock.

Gotta love it. I wouldn't be surpised If I'm technically the last damn order and they are now completely out of stock.

Ugh... :angry

I stretched mine a tiny bit so it wouldn't rip my ears off!

It didn't appear that my box had been opened, and everything was in great shape. Of course the snap on the chin strap busted the first time I opened it, but no big deal.

Re: MR has rocketeer helmet for $179 right now

beautiful! So you just stood inside the helmet and pulled to stretch it?

Re: MR has rocketeer helmet for $179 right now

I always wanted to know the history behind the Rocketeer helmet. Did it come out in early 80s comics?

I ask because I remember a GiJoe figure that came out in the 80s that looked VERY similar to The Rocketeer.

Helmet is pretty close IMO...as is the outfit...nice copy, huh? :)

Re: MR has rocketeer helmet for $179 right now

The first appearance of the Rocketeer was in the comicbook Starslayer #2 which was in April of 1982. There was an advertisement in the previous issue (#1) which came out in February of 1982. And considering Dave would have been developing the character prior to it being printed, he probably would have started work on it maybe in 1980 or 81 at the latest but probably earlier would be my guess...

From the interviews I've read, Dave was/is a big fan of the 1940's era and obviously he was into art deco to some degree. To my knowledge, he didn't base the helmet on anything in particular though he would have been familiar with the Rocketman movie serials.

The only chance I've had to talk to Dave was at a convention appearance he did here. Nothing I've read and nothing he told me then indicated he took the inspiration from the helmet from anything single source in particular though. Of course, that's not to say things didn't influence him at least on a subconscious level, y'know?

And as a side note... the changes to the rocketpack from the comic to the movie were partially for practical reasons. They found early on in prop/costume tests that a single bullet style pack caused the actor to lose his balance when he was running around. The twin-hulled design distributed the weight better and didn't throw the actors off balance.

Re: MR has rocketeer helmet for $179 right now

besides that, the duel engine design just looks soooo much cooler than the comic version

Yep, just layed it on the carpet, stepped on the inside and pulled gently on the other side. Took about 10 seconds. Of course like I said, I only stretched it a little.
