MR Assualt Phaser Delivered!

Wow, that looks nothing like the prototype. That sucks.

MR will probably say 'finished product does not always match prototype' but that looks like bait-and-switch to me.

I'm so happy MR isn't in the lightsaber business anymore.

I was looking at the pics at rebelscum, and I noticed that the plaque reads "STARTREK" and not "STAR TREK"...

compare it to an older star trek plaque by MR...

The paint job looks completely different! The paint on the gun at toyfair looks great, glossy, it also looks like they they made the pieces underneath the vents black instead of silver

(Hi all...lots of old friends in this thread!)

Hey Cliff! Yes...it sure has been a long time. Hope life is treating you well. :)

A question for you...or anyone else that knows...

Does the Phaser 1 work independently of the Phaser 2?

I know that the Rebel Scum thread said it lit up while cradled in the cowling...but does it have it's own sounds and lights like the P1 of the TOS version?

Whomever has one...please post pics.

From what I have heard the P1 is a totally static piece.

Your right!

The space between the R and T is not here. No one saw that when proofing?

I think what we are seeing is the first product to come out the door since the folks at MR that used to keep thier eyes on the ball have departed.

It's my understanding that the Phaser 1 is a clear slug of plastic painted black with the areas that need to light up having been masked off in production. The light that makes the Phaser 1 light up is in the top of Phaser 2 clip.

You are kidding me? So it does not even have it's own light source? (Like an LED?)

This sounds more like what you would expect for a toy produced item...not a $500.00 collector's piece.

Someone please tell me it has the correct plate on the bottom of the clip.

If you go look at the Assault Phaser kit that Roddenberry.com is selling and download the instructions you'll see exactly what I'm talking about on the Phaser 1, the MR is exactly the same.

It’s here.

Well, where to start. The entire Phaser seems to have a white oxidation of it’s paint or what may be an intentional over spray, I’m thinking it’s some type of oxidation because if you touch the same spot enough the white will come off. Just the few times I’ve touched the clip and slide releases has exposed a semi gloss black finish under it. (see photo below)

It feels cheap, frankly my AA Communicator is better made. The weight is really not an issue, it could have been heavier but it’s not bad. It is all plastic, seems to be injected molded ABS, the setting dial, rear fins and barrel are aluminum, the base of the clip appears to be die cast.

The lights and sound are good but do not come close to off setting the bad finish on the Phaser, it’s just unacceptable and yes, this is going back. I didn’t unpack anything else but I can tell that the base for the cover does not match the other Trek bases, it’s darker.

I have never returned an MR item out of dissatisfaction, this will be the first.

On with the photos.....

Have you tried to clean it up?
Maybe some car detail spray?

For $450 I should unpack it and put it on the shelf like everything else I've bought from MR to this point.

The more I look at it I think it may be haze from superglue that may not have been cured before the Phaser went in the poly bag.

wow. That is pretty sad!

And to think how close I came to ordering one. For the price, I was, (like everyone else it seems), expecting a LOT more from this piece.

-B89! :D

Sorry to hear about this Jim. I know you were looking forward to this one...

It's really a shame they're trying to push that kind of crap at such a premium.

If this is what MR has done with the Assualt Phaser, I dread to think what the Tricorder is going to be like when it finally arrives. It really is sad to see how far MR has fallen.

Thanks for sharing the pics, and I'm sorry it's not up to expectations.
I guess this has fallen foul of QC issues, as have a few of their pieces in the past.
I won't be picking one up now.

EDIT: One question, does it have the ident badge on the bottom of the mag?

I was hoping the assault phaser shown in other threads was simply a unique, poorly assembled model. Alas, based on gojira's photos, they're all like that. :angry

I could deal with the [mostly] ABS. I could deal with the light weight. But that "paint job" is horrendous - an insult to the buyer (plus, I kinda preferred the EM-style, two-tone paint job). At $499 a piece (or even the discounted prices we've paid on the RPF), MR is out of its mind. :thumbsdown

Gojira's pictures are horrible. Paint rubbing off? What's going on with that seam? This is going from bad to worse...That's a playmates toy.

I understand changes between a prototype & final product but that comes nowhere close.

I'll state this one point Pre-Orders were offered by Master Replicas, vendors bought, money traded hands, based largely on information and a prototype provided by Master Replicas. We have been misled.

Pete
