MR Assualt Phaser Delivered!

"The phaser is very light. It's all plastic. I felt this weapon should have some 'heft' to it. The classic phaser has a metal power pack/grip. That gave it some weight. This feels more like a toy. Thus, it will look great displayed but not so great to hold. I'll be curious to see what others think."

Well that's disappointing. I expected heft as well.

Oh well.

Maybe there is a way to add weight to it later.

How heavy is it and I have to ask how much do you want it or
would you like to weigh. My 9mm weighs 2LBS with a empty clip.

I would think that a weapon like that (If it were real) would be made of light weight materials in a future time.

I got a good deal on mine and I can wait.

The guy was comparing it to the MR TOS phaser.
So I expected similar. It just feels better.

Remember Jurassic Park?

"Is it heavy? Then it's expensive, put it down."

hahah... the perfect quote. but yeah, it always seems like the heavier a prop is the more it's "worth" the price (especially for visitors looking at the stuff... "you paid $XXX for this? it's so light!!!")

I just weighed my MR TOS Phaser and it weighs 1.5 pounds
with out the batteries in the grip.
and my MR First Contact Phaser with batteries weighs 1pound
and it has a good heft to it.

So how much does the Assualt Phaser weigh, It cannot weigh less than a Pound can it.....

I heard back from my sales rep. They had some (not all) of the phasers shipped by air for direct customers. No change in delivery for retailers like myself.

Well the features do sound nice...

But it appears they cut corners when it came to materials this time around. (I recall the original build of the MR AP was going to involve an all metal piece...like the MR TOS version.)

I have been waiting for this replica to be finally made after many delays by MR.

And the cheaper materials they ended up using would be fine considering the features it seems to have.

But again...not for $500.00.

$500.00 may have been doable if it had more heft and/or was all metal.

The price point really should not have been over $350.00 for the final product that is offered now, IMHO.

And that probably would have been the price..if it was made a few years back as planned. (And it would have probably been made out of more metal to boot)

I guess we can blame our current economy or the the state of MR...I don't know.

The whole "space agey weapons should be made of lighter space agey material" argument does not hold water for me.

Lightsabers are space agey too. They really should not be made out of metal or have any heft, right?

I don't mean to come off so bitter..but I was really looking forward to this piece and I am disappointed with the asking price considering what you end up getting.

I guess I will just stick to the 2-3 resin ones I currently have. Sure...I have no electronics in any of them but the clips are removal, the cowls slides to reveal a removable P1, there is more metal (which seems ironic) and they were a fraction of the cost.

:thumbsup Word.

Yep.
When you can get plastic TOS ones now with super detailing for 35 dollars, these just do not hold up to the value of what you are paying versus what you should get. I stand by the metal version versus the plastic. This bodes extremely poorly for MR.

Since we have been talking about it and were all told the Assualt Phaser is a light weight and has no heft.
Is any body that has a Assualt phaser going to tell us how much it weighs :confused :confused :confused

I know the package is supposed to weight about 11 lbs. So, I would guess it weighs maybe 2-3 lbs and rest is the stand/case and packaging materials.

Dude, I feel your pain!

Although I did not buy this piece I am pretty disapointed in how it turned out.

Heres hoping the Tricorder, which I ordered, will be better but I don't think that willl be the case.

Plastic?!?! What happened to Zymac?

500 bones for a plastic replica is insane. I don't care what it does.

Yup, whole thing was supposed to be Zymac with some die cast and ABS parts. Go to the MR site and unless I'm mistaken the discription has changed from when pre order started on these.

High quality machined and die-cast metal and injection molded ABS construction
