Anyone got any good recipes for creating a pearl effect in resin for pistol grips? Or just an effective paint job?

I once heard someone doing it as a clear coat proceedure.

Any details?

Well there's stuff called Tamiya "Pearlescent Clear Coat" I used on my Replicator. While the base coats were silver and blue, I imagine you could do something similar with other base coats to get the effect.

Hey Simon,

Right in front of me, I have a bottle of "DecoArt Dazzling Mettalics Elegant Finish - white pearl". I also have it in sky blue. As long as you really give the bottle a good shake to stir up the meattalic flake, the pearl effect is actually pretty good. I got it from an online vendor, but I don't remember which one.

It's easy and inexpensive. Look'em up and giv'em a try.

Y'know, I noticed that about 2 weeks ago - maybe it explains why we've gotten along as well as we have ;) .

In these days of limited-time registration, it's not uncommon for people to exact same days of registration. But back then, it was a free-for-all so it would be a lot less likely for 2 people to have the same exact date of registration.

Anyway, good luck with the grips and be sure to post pics when you're done.

Just picked up a tube of the DecoArt pearl paint on Ebay. If that doesn't work, I'm gonna try out Kerr's clear pearlecent method.

Will post results.

Alumilite sells dyes for use in resin casting. I haven't used their dyes, but I've used their silicone RTV and resin and they seem to be good products. I don't know if you'd have to use the porcelain powder in combination with the dye to get a pearlescent effect, but that might work.
