VX Poison Gas Pearl Strand from the movie The Rock- 1st attempt

Hey everybody,
My name is Travis and I’m out of Montana . I’m fairly new to the prop making world and happy to be here.

This is my first attempt at making the VX Gas Pearls strand from the movie The Rock. It’s not perfect by any means, but I know what I did wrong and my next version should be a lot better.

I need to shorten the connectors on the top and my soldering needs some work

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hey there! No, I bought 40mm glass balls with a hole on each side on AliBaba.

For anyone who has made this, how do you hold all the spheres together? I’ve seen some use a skinny rod through all the spheres and fishing line, but like at the bottom, how does it connect at the bottom and how does it connect at the top? Sorry I’m slow lol

No worries. My first strand I used fishing string. What I found was as pearls were added(weight) the string actually stretched when it was held up on one end. It was very pliable but felt somewhat unstable.

My second attempt utilized transparent Nylon Line Hose tube(2mm ID). The tube fit through the spheres holes just about perfectly. Though the spheres are hand blown, the holes on either side sometimes are inconsistent. The tube is somewhat rigid and actually works well as spheres and weight are added to the hose. By the time the strand is complete, the hose has no choice but to straighten out. Pliability and strength are just about perfect.

As the hose is passed through the first sphere, I heated a flat piece of metal and melted the end of the hose. It then was too large to pull through the hole.

I'm getting closer to an ideal set up though it isn't 100%.
