I've seen something like that before. I'm thinking some kind of container where those handles pull out and then sit back flush with the container.

I would agree it could be a filler cap off of one of the many Jet engines they were grabbing parts from !

For some reason I was fascinated by this little prop back when it was an accessory with the deleted scene figure a few years back. I think there was some discussion on it but not anything concrete.

This whole time, the way he's holding it, I thought it flipped open like a flip phone. Guys, I think it DID get screen time as a microphone and it doesn't flip open

I think that same part is.. or is believed to be the same part used as Luke’s comm on his glove in The Empire Strikes Back.
