Mirror Polish Question

Does anyone know how much surface loss occurs after mirror polishing a round stainless steel bar? For example, if the OD is 1.5", will it drop to 1.499" or less after receiving a mirror polish?

It all depends on how rough the finish is currently.If its really rough you could loose .004 to .005.If its good to begin with you may not go below 1.499.

Oh, yes. I would say it's a brushy satin finish, or what might commonly referred to as a 'machine finish.'

How much might this take off?
