Mini Darth Vader costume completed: page 6 pics, pg 7 new con pics

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

Shoulder bells all trimmed up and heated/formed to match/align with breast form shape. I trimmed off the bottom lip/bump of the shoulder pads. Now I just need to attach them and then I can start to trim and shape the full peice. Then it's onto adding the detailing before painting.

I'm still questioning this- as I'm not the Vader expert:

Does the inner robe go over the shoulder amor- or Under it? I've seen photos of both ways.

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

Inner robe goes over shoulder armor in "ANH" and under in "ESB" and "ROTJ" hope this helps.

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

Thanks- I started digging a little more to figure that out. Hard part is google images are mostly fan made suits- and there is such a variety.

I noticed the 501st site has some references now too- describing some differences.

I guess at this point- since I didn't go for a particular look- i could maybe do either.

Chest box has green red square (ANH)- so I'd have to change the toggle button colors.

Belt boxes, look more ESBish.

Oh well. I think I'll probably go under. Unless the Shoulder armor looks horrid when I get done with it- then I may want to cover it up more. :lol

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

Shoulders rough cut to fit- still had lip on bottom edge:

Trimmed off lip. Need to attach and shape full peice better- add details, bondo, paint- etc. (mini saber being worked on too):

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

Couple of saber pics. This was pretty much thrown together- with hardware stuff for about $17.00 all said n done- just for something to hang off his belt when walking around. I'll have the FX he can use for photos.

The mini-saber came out GREAT! I love the pic next to the FX. :thumbsup

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

Looking great, Jobi! You could just keep going at this, you know. As he gets bigger, start making bigger parts, and eventually, you'll have a dozen different Vader costumes in different sizes! :D

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

True. I have 3 storage bins filled with home made costumes now- either for the wife and I, or for each of the kids over the past 6 yrs. And that doesn't include most of the SW stuff I sold- Xwing, biker, Trooper, Gunner, Officer, Jedi, Padme, Leia, etc.

I could seriously open up a rental shop- like probably most of the costumers reading this particular forum.

hey.....2 cents :confused:love

Ideeer...... Who wants to go into biz with me and open a Costume rental shop? :lol

Dang- we could have one all over the country/world wide under the same name.

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

Busy day at work followed by Hockey:

Then a little Angry Birds when we got home (we just got a new driveway and the best part is it came with a free slingshot):

Then- finally asleep, onto some more building...
I started adding layers to the Chest tonight to give design/shape/definition. Just basic layout and will be using spotting putty/bondo to finish it off and clean it up by sanding. Then onto paint.

this is just a No parking sign cut up to shape and glued over the top of the form.

I have a few more pics- but it must be late and they aren't showing yet. Will get them up in the morning, as it shows the shoulder bells as well.

time for a few zzzz's before doing it all again.

Looks awesome. The progress pics are really fun.

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

I don't know which takes mroe time..... the actual build, or documenting it in photos and posting on FB, youtube and RPF. haha.

But- it's coming along nicely. Too bad I spend 4 hours filling a basketball hoop with Sand (wet sand) through a 1 inch hole last night. What a PITA that was.

No time for costuming last night, as I just wanted a cocktail and go to bed after that.

More this weekend I'm sure.

thanks for following along......

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

Got quite a bit done today. Stormed all day, so I got out of chores. Momma and the boys went and did a kids 1K and walked a 5K after that for "get your rear in gear" colon cancer run along with my mother inlaw who is a survior.
So- I had the place to myself and got lots done.

first up- (wrong thread)- finished Jacks trooper:

Then back to Vader- First coat of paint:

so far so good:

MMM = not perfect, but good enough for moi:

Time to form up the shins:

the beginnings-

Got the templates roughed for the shins, what I'll add over the top to give more shape and design. I also got some new cape chain that I like better. Will have to snap a pic of that too.

closer and closer... still dredding that helmet though. I did cut up the dome today and started playing with that too.

keep on plugging..

Different chain I got for the cape- I like it much better:

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

time for some test fittings. I don't know.. need some opinions as I read this in another Vader post. I pushed the inner robe to the side as I wanted to see what the shins looked like. But in all honestly.. they look pretty good as is. Im not sure I want to spend the time detailing them. And when the robe isn't pushed to the side and more in front, you probably won't see them anyways. either way the shape catches the light pretty well to get effect.

Well.. onto the show.

A few without the cape and just the inner robe:

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

this thread has been really neat to watch!

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

Thanks.. with Vader in the forum name, thoughts?

Should I detail out the shins?

I'm thinking the cod is too big too. I'm gonig to make a smaller one, as that's 20 mins of work to redo one. I'll save the bigger one for when he grows.

I think that stands out the most as being off, then the chest box being a little big is next- but nothing I can do about that one.

J

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

Hi, This quite a thread, nice build, that cod does look a bit large in that last photo you posted. great job on the overall costume

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

Thanks.

Seemed ok at first, but now with all the parts put together- it stands out more.

I originally had the belt with boxes going over it- but I think I need to cut that down so it's just under that belt and then make the cod itself smaller overall.

I have plenty of foam and fake leater material left, so will just whip up a new one quick.

I'm torn on the shins though. May just hold off on those and finish the other items that NEED to be done, and if time, do the details on the shins.

I think the helmet is going to try my patients and take a good amount of time.

Re: Electronic help-thanks. Vader belt boxes-almost done. mini vader costume progress

Nicely done!

I think the shins look great!

Take the week off and don't burn yourself out. We can wait.

Great thread. Thanks for all the ideas.
