Mind-**** Movies!

Havent seen High Tension named or its original name Haute Tension. Its a good mind **** horror film.

Even though everything is solved at the end of the movie, one of my favs is still Confidence. Everytime I watch it I pick up on something else.

Seems like we are hitting on two different subjects here, one being mind-benders and the other being movies that are simply made to shock you with their brutality or graphic imagery. I am not into any type of torture porn at all and don't have any desire to see any movie that wants to show me that (the Last House on the Left types of movies). It is enough to know that stuff exists in the real world. I have no desire to voluntarily subject myself to it or think about the fact that someone spent millions of dollars to film it.

Mind-benders on the other hand are often fun as long as a movie isn't just a mess of confusion pretending to be "deep" or pretending to have some unknowable meaning. Just give me something that isn't easily predictable and I am pretty happy.

Actually, it was. But I agree, it's one of my favorites. "Darkness" is one that has a bit of twist ending. I followed it, but as I walked out of the theater I heard a group talking about how they didn't understand the ending. To me it didn't seems so complicated as it played out, but maybe they were just the typical movie going idiots who should have seen something less challenging.

Watched this today and all I can say is WTF is wrong with people?!? I mean, seriously?!? (n)thumbsdown:angry

Sick, horrible story.

I just wonder if they are going to tone it down or go over the top crazy with the remake that Josh Brolin is attached to.

I've only seen one other person here suggest Vanilla Sky. Love or hate Tom Cruise, this was an excellent film.

Anyone seen Red State yet? While it's not as mind-numbing a --- as some of the rest, there is... something (as not to spoil).
I found the "twist" at the end to be lots of fun in otherwise dark and often violent movie.

I watched Red State last weekend and while I would not consider it a "Mind F" as the thread suggests, it was certainly a departure from Kevin Smith's film repertoire. Either way, the film gave me a sick feeling early on but overall was intriguing and had a good ending, IMO.

Sick, horrible story.

Yet at the same time it's as beautiful and as powerful as the best Greek or Shakespearian tragedy.

If that is your cup of tea, go for it, but as I said previously, knowing that stuff goes on in real life is more than enough for me. I simply don't want to subject myself to it voluntarily... speaking of, another one is any movie that focuses on violence towards women... just not interested in seeing that. I saw enough of that in the short time I was in law enforcement that I don't want to see it on the big screen (or the small screen)... so, no Lifetime channel for me! ;)

Puritans, whataya gonna do? :rolleyes:lol

I know a lot of people didn't care for Vanilla Sky, but I really liked it too.

Kinda predictable for me to say it, but the original was waaaaay better :lol

Haute Tension just made me want to commit acts of violence (sorry, Art :angel) against the director for one of the all time worst twist endings.

Seventh Seal for the win....
