Mind-**** Movies!

Funny games is hands down one of the most ****ed up films I have ever seen.

One hour photo is another WTF movie.

"Identity" was kind of set up to be a "Memento"/"Usual Suspects" hybrid knock-off, but it does all get explained near the end, which was disappointing.
I thought Identity was a fun film. A good friend and I are the type of people who usually have any given movie figured out in the first 10-20 minutes, but that one kept us guessing.

Pi is worth checking out.

There's one twist scene in Henry: Portrait of a Serial killer that is idelible. So, so chilling. One of the best horror films ever made if you ask me.

No Country For Old Men, just because the handling of the main characters is so casually nihilistic it defies our conventions of how we tell stories and handle our pro/antagonists. It's not the plot that's shocking so much as the way all our expectations about storytelling are flouted. Very effective. Those of you who've seen it, am I making sense?

Oh, yah I liked it fine... the OP was asking for movies that don't lead you through the explanation by the hand, so I thought I'd mention that it does do that just a smidge. But I definitely recommend it.

Was gonna include Cemetary Man on my list - part wacky zombie movie, part mind-****

Great movie.

Identity, Fight Club, Hidden Window and Haute Tension all seemed to play with that schizo disorder/twin personality thing that became very tired.

Charlie Kauffman stuff I tend to find smug and wrapped up in how clever he thinks he is, though I enjoyed Being John Malkovitch.

Audition certainly fits the bill, as do most other Miike movies.

Loved Cube, haven't managed to catch Splice yet.

A couple more real Japanese head-shredders -

Uzumaki (spiral)
Suicide Circle

These movies? Pspsps. Kids play!

Monster A-Go Go. Yes, that ending screwed with my mind in more ways than any ending I've ever seen. It topped Evangelion's ending for ruining me for the whole day!

Shyamalan (sp?) generally isn't a good fit to me

Shamalamadingdong should never be considered a good fit, except 6th Sense. Especially the 'so called twist'.

And, this one isn't necessarily a good movie, but: Splice. I watched that and just don't understand why. I was soooo boggled the whole thing through, that I was confused to what I just got done watching. Also, the end
When Dren turned male, was predictable, they just went over that about 10 minutes prior in the movie.

Anyone seen Red State yet? While it's not as mind-numbing a --- as some of the rest, there is... something (as not to spoil).
I found the "twist" at the end to be lots of fun in otherwise dark and often violent movie.
