Millennium Falcon Gold Dice

Those links look too thin. If I am seeing what I think I am seeing. The links are more of a box link style chain like my I,age posted above.

Here is a quick blurry picture I took from the new visual dictionary. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1450285648.701676.jpg

Assuming the image from the book is of the real dice, and I have no reason not to believe it: they are not the ones sold buy the seller from the original post nor or they the ones I bought.

In in the image above, you can see the the alignment of the dots on the "6" side of the pair I own go a different direction.

The new image also appears to further the belief that they painted the dice. If so, then the dice used may have been any color.

Still can't explain the difference in the two dice on the vanity fair cover. Are they from different sets or is there some lighting distortion, or did the editors have to photoshop for some reason?

I did a quick Amazon search. Using the 6 to 5 alignment as a base, it would seam that most dice on the market do not have this in common.

However I did find a brand that matches with alignment and round corners as well as the not large 1 dot side. They are made by Chessex under a style name of Gemini. They appear to be the 12mm variant.

It it is important to note that the alignment of the Gemini in the 16" model is wrong as well as other models by Chessex that are not under the Gemini style.

These come in in various colors but that should not matter if they were painted gold.

Don't trust pix from the Visual Dictionary.
Many items are fan made.
(I worked on a few of them)

True and agree, which is why I said "assuming".

However to my knowledge, most of those things made for use in the Vis Dict were items that no longer existed 20+ years later or were in too poor shape or fragile (such as the cantina band member which was actually made only one and Photoshopped into a group) or to utilize or items that were made to fill in gaps that were not actually featured in movies like Yoda's lightsaber for The Phantom Menace, holocrons, trooper pistol, etc.

Right now, I am going to keep assuming they are the actual prop because the dice and chain visually match what has been seen so far.

Looks like the chain is something like this one:

Seen some that are gold as well and with different link sizes. Hard to determine if they used a gold/brass chain or painted it as well.

Loving the work MJF but the ones in the pics from 1976, and 2014 seem quite a bit bigger than 12mm to me...
How big are the ones you bought?

I have been looking still and want to correct a previous statement I made. It appears that the Gemini in 16mm may or may not the correct alignment. I see different images showing conflicting information. Possibly older runs?

If they are bigger, I found a style made from D&G jumbo size at 22mm. However you need to ensure they are opaque style but only some of the pictures show correct 5 and 6 alignment. So it's sort of a crap shoot. See what I did there? :p

Could we maybe come up with a consensus for the size of the dice? I agree that 12mm is too small. 16mm does seem closer, but it is only 5/8". I was thinking they are closer too 3/4" or 19mm. I was thinking of just making a set. There is websites that sell blank dice. Or maybe I could make a set out of brass.

To resurrect an old thread. I ordered a set of those eBay dice. The dot pattern for the 3 is different than the ones from the Vanity Fair pic. So I went for "close enough" and picked up a chain from Hobby Lobby and have them hanging in my minivan - since it too is a piece of junk.

MJF any new updates with your dice?

Not really. Originally it seemed that JJ was using a found set of gold dice. The idea was to get a pair of these dice f my collection before the company decides to discontinue or change them like so many other items that get screen used.

however based in pictures of the dice used, they do not appear to be using the gold dice discussed in the first post. It looks more like they just took a pair of dice and painted them. Based on the Vanity Fair cover and the conflicting dot layout, I have to wonder if there was some type of Photoshopping going on. The next best resource is the Vis Dict. Based in the visible layout, there is only a few known dice it could of be. See earlier posts.

Furthermore, can anyone confirm their appearance in the movie?

Basically i I lost my enthusiasm for this. :(

aww don't lose faith man, I followed this thread awhile ago I did grab a pair of dice from the same guy. but I completely agree with you

I don't believe they used this dice and it looks like just painted dice in the VD. I also think the VD dice is the same in the vanity fair cover.

2 weeks ago I went chain shopping, and though I don't know if I found the right chain I found one I really liked.

I was just curious how the dice hunting went I think I'm going to order those chessex dice you shown pervious and paint them a flat gold. or maybe experiment with rub & buff if they have a gold

stay positive my friend!

Still not seeing a good pair of Chessex dice that match the dot configuration of 16mm. Only 12mm and I think we all believe that is too small.
