Mega-con Orlando 2014

I think I ran into tubachris, because I recognized the head (the only difference between the one pictured and the one I saw was that there were lights added to it).

Wow today started bad. it took about 45 minutes to get to the convention center followed by 45 minutes to pay for parking and park. And of course there were self entitled idiots that tried to cut in line instead of waiting like the rest of us. When I saw the line just to get in the building I almost turned around and went home. Getting inside and buying a ticket only took about half an hour. Luckily, I got to the only panel I really wanted to see.

Maybe the start put me in a bad mood but it seemed far more crowded this year. I finally left before I assaulted the next idiot who stopped in an isle and hang out with a friend. Not to mention the clumps of teenagers who would sit on the floor and people would have to go around them.

Also, on the way home the radio announcer said the convention was expected to put $23 million in the local economy. Too bad half of that is for the food vendors. I'm glad I was able to smuggle food in.

On the way out I told myself I probably would not go next year, but I think I will give it one more chance.

Honestly, this year has to be the biggest turnout to the convention I've seen. And I've been going since 2009. And traffic hasn't been that bad before either. Sorry that you had such a rough time during the convention. After today, my Dad says he wants to go to the convention next year on Friday and Sunday, and spend Saturday at Acme Superstore (since Saturday is when everyone goes, Friday is when everyone everyone is coming in and Sunday is when everyone is leaving).

This was my third year. I was blown away by how bad it was. Last year I waited until it was too late to buy my tickets online and there was next to no line to buy tickets. So I figured I could do that again this year.
These are the back half of the line before you turn another corner, go up stairs, go inside, go downstairs, and get in a theme park back-and-forth line to buy tickets.

Parking there is never good but today it was ridiculous. They changed buildings so at least I didn't have to also take a bus from the parking lot to the correct building. Although that might have been part of the problem. Maybe the buses broke people up into groups and that affected the lines.

I live on the other side of Orlando so I just go for the day. I really don't want to go multiple days. Even with people clogging the isles it only took me a little over an hour to check out the vendors. And I skipped the costume contest because I had to get home to walk my dog.

I won a free two day stay at the Kessler Castle Hotel in a silent Auction, and we decided to use it this weekend as a nice getaway....

Holy crap!!!!!!! WTF did we do?

It is just down the road from the convention center and traffic was absolutely horrible. We sat for about 2 hours in traffic on I-Drive.
It is so crowded at the restaurants and a nightmare :lol

I can't believe how crowded it is over here.
I am sitting right now out at the hotel pool listening to all the cars still honking and it is 11:30 at night.

You know who is cleaning up? The bike taxi people.
They charge between $20-40 depending on directing and distance.
$20-$25 going from Point Orlando to the convention.
$35-$40 to go from the convention back as it is uphill that way.
They were busy as hell. They got good exercise and a bundle of cash.
My wife and I just sat drinking at Senior Frogs and counted one guy do ten trips back and forth while we sat there.
Over a two hour period he had to clear $500+. I bet in a day they make over a couple grand. Imagine what they make all weekend.

I found out that the south concord is much smaller, which is why Saturday appeared so freakin' packed in comparison to before.

But to recall my past times, I still don't remember the lines for the tickets being long (maybe because I got up at the convention at 7 am the first few times to buy tickets, the rest of those times being prepaid online).

Still, traffic being that bad was quite unusual in comparisons to the other times I've gone.

MegaCon is Epic! I'm very excited and honored Stan Lee was available for a signature. It's fantastic to thank him in person for his work... Signed my JIMMY CLAWS signed X-MEN Wolverine X1 Claw!

wow lucky you... I'm going to try to have my Iron man Sideshow Mark 1 helmet signed this july at SDCC.. i'm also hoping to get my Wolverine claws signed but wondering if it will be a hassle to bring it in, the convention.. do they limit you on how many items you want to get signed?

It will be worth the wait for me, even if it cost me most of my day at Con.. He is still a pretty strong guy for his age honestly speaking, we are not sure how much longer he has in his life.. Or even how long he would do conventions So i want to make sure i can meet him.. Im excited... < -- one of my bucket list

Ah, so it was in the later half of the day. I was hoping to see if maybe you may have been in line with my Dad and not realize it (but since he went in the morning, it's unlikely. Thanks. It was the second time he got one of Mr. Lee's comics signed. He got one of the classic Incredible Hulk comics signed. The previous time, he got one of the early Journey Into Mystery comic featuring Thor signed (it was either last year or the year before that, I can't remember). For me, I got Wil Wheaton to sign one of his action figures still on the card (I almost came close to asking him to sign the message for Sheldon Cooper in the episode of The Big Bang Theory so it'd be a crossover item and a nice replica, but decided that it'd just be better to leave it at his name), as well as several of my comics signed (including Amanda Connor, Chuck Dixon, Frank Brunner, Neal Adams, Brian Pulido and William Tucci, amongst others). My Dad and I wanted to also snag George Perez's autograph (I was going to have him sign my Crisis on Infinite Earths #1, my Dad was going to have him sign his #7), but the line was pretty freakin' long. We're hoping to snag his autograph next year.

I did not get any pictures or autographs but I walked by the area. I was surprised how short the line for Karl Urban was on Saturday. If I had gone for either of those I probably could have hung out with him for a while.
