These are some medieval helmets Im working on. They are all variations of the same model. I plan to make them out of pepakura using the low resolution versions

They are all works in progress but I feel they are looking pretty good right now. I plan to make other types soon. After I get bored with making helmets I will probably start working on other armor parts. Im thinking chest plates next. I will also probably upload the low resolution models and the high resolution models for y'all to play around with. I dont have the full version of pepakura designer so I wont be able to upload a fold out when I figure out how best to unwrap them.

Cool project... this is not an easy thing to do, so I salute you! :thumbsup

I'm trying to build a full suit of armor as a display for my living room using the same method. I have all of the pieces done in 3D, but now I have to lower the poly count so Pepakura will accept them... should take about a year to complete. LOL

Looking forward to your progress!

Thanks, I cant wait to see yours. Unwrapping has been a pain in the butt because I am not quite sure what the most efficient way to do this is yet and I cant save my progress if my computer restarts. Nothing makes a home more awesome than a suit of armor in the living room ;)

Yeah, unfolding can be a nightmare, so don't feel too bad about it. It's definitely an art form and not a science. Everyone does it differently, so take your time and eventually it will come to you.

As far as tips go, the best thing to do is keep doing what you're doing (a.k.a. using the internet as research). There's a ton of information about Pepakura techniques on the 405th forum, but it's all fairly vague to me. Dungbeetle started a new forum as well, but I haven't regestered over there yet, so you might want to check it out. ;)

My only valuable suggestion is to go ahead and purchase the full version of Pepakura... for the $40 you spend, it'll save you a great deal of headache in the long run.
