MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy- One Year Later Pic End of Page 12

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (Convention pics, 4-26)

well, if you think about how they bend, the pivot point is actually in the middle of the strip, and you want the ends to be able to stretch apart freely, since as they collapse towards each other the ends move apart. Does that make sense?

Crappy paint diagram to the rescue!

Good point! You are the man! How are you pivoting them all from the middle?

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (Convention pics, 4-26)

Actually I just did a quick mockup with some paper and you actually do need to pivot each piece at their ends... then they collapse onto one another as you curl your arm up.

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (Convention pics, 4-26)

Yes, that's a good way of doing it, but you need to attach them in a sort of shingle fasion to get it to collapse neatly. I'm planning to attach them together with three strips of elastic, one thick strip running down the middle so it pivots, then two much thinner strips on the sides so that it can stretch, but always wants to come back together. thats how I also did my armor behind the knee

Could you email or facebook or PM me here a photo of the back o of the knee articulation?

Awesome dude. I am confident you'll get it figure out... question though... how is the hinge set up? Electronics aside.. how is the hinge set up? I need to figure something out for mine.

Thanks guys! I actually don't have any hinges in my helmet, I use the tracks behind the faceplate on the top of the helmet, and it slides up and down. That's probably where I'm running into trouble getting it to open. I'm sure the motor is strong enough, there is just too much friction right now to let it open all the way. I just tried the helmet on with the faceplate movement, and if I jilt my head a little bit the faceplate slides open... :lol

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (Convention pics, 4-26)

heh no It's actually a material test for some Thor arms. Don't know if I'll actually do the costume or not. I'm itching to do something original.

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (Convention pics, 4-26)

alright....thats it....tomorrow i'm buying some duct tape....i must make something.....

i'm thinking maybe something mass effect related...

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (Convention pics, 4-26)

That's the spirit! make sure to have some rubbing alcohol and a rag, because the glue from the duct tape will gunk up the scissors really fast.

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (Convention pics, 4-26)

If you wanna do something original (obviously you got the skills, man)... May I suggest:

a Hammer Drone?

That would be pretty bada** but I'm thinking more along the lines of completely original, something you could submit to the Syfy series "Faceoff." I'm gunning for season 3...

I think before you tackle your next masterpiece that you show us the final outcome of your mark iv.

Haha I think you're right GJ. I just happen to be the worst procrastinator in the world.:rolleyes

A little update on my progress on the new arms- Hope to have all of my templates done by tomorrow, then the arms constructed by early next week!

The closest any part of this suit will get to being "Iron" lol. Keep in mind that some of the proportions are off with the tinfoil, but when I make the templates I refine them a lot.
