Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (Convention pics, 4-26)

How tall are you Delray? McLean? Would we have the 3 different height versions of Iron Man? I am 6'2"

WOW. I saw a decent war machine costume at SDCC last year made out of cardboard. but this totally blows that out of the water.

Haha thanks Rysjin, I very much wanted to give a nod to the animators, especially since practically all of my reference images are of the CGI Mark 4 suit. It seems like the CGI animators were the only ones that sat down and really figured out how the suit moves, especially since it's their job to do just that- get it moving believably in the movie. There are certain details of the armor that the CGi team changed (Like the side and back ab armor), and I can only guess it was for added mobility, and who doesn't want that!

I here that about mobility bra also ya gotta be comfortable in it i wouldn't want ta wear something that's not comfortable. Ya know when they did th' first IM movie alot of th' CGI that was done so that th' armor could fly there we're parts all over th' armor that had ta be manipulated that if done /w/ mechanical effects would've been physically uncomfortable for an actor ta wear if not impossible.

Man that is sweet I live about twenty minutes from where this was at and had to work so I missed it. your suit looked awesome in that video. I would have liked to have seen it in person, congrats

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (Convention pics, 4-26)

how in the world.....

your ducktape looks so smooth and uniform. like theres no signs of pieces of tape overlapping, nor can you see those little fibers that are on the tape. how did you do it?

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (Convention pics, 4-26)

Well, if you look for it you can certainly find proof that it's made of duct tape. Whenever you build anything, you're always going to be your harshest critic and the duct tape lines and overlap is my least favorite part. Every now and then the light will hit a piece and you can see a little bit of overlap, but that's just the unfortunate reality of duct tape.

On a side note, here's a little material test/distraction using some of the same foam/duct tape techniques I've used on the suit-

Now all I need is some steroids for what's underneath... lol

One.. project... at a time...!

McLean... loved the vid. I took some HD screen grabs of your suit. Hope you don't mind that I have shared them here. They are kinda big too. Let me know if you want me to delete them. Cheers!

Don't mind at all Jordan, I think they look great! Haha you can definitely tell it's made of duct tape there!

Also, everyone keep in mind I rushed to get that glove done in time, so it's really just a stand in (thus the taped on tap-light battery pack). I suppose I'll post some progress on the new arms to prove it! Also, it looks like you can see my neck, but you can't. It's just some light reflecting off of an angled piece of armor on the neck. Considering removing it after seeing how it looks from that angle...

Dude I love the elbow articulation. Mind if I steal this idea? LOL

Is it just craft foam? Would you mind posting a pic of an individual piece and letting me know how you glued it to your undersuit? I need something to span this area of my suit as well. Plus I'll be doing it to the back of my knees.

Yea, It's just two thin strips of craft foam glued together to make the curve, then covered in duct tape, then I cut out the little rectangular notch. Pretty simple! And for attaching, I think I'm only going to attach it to the inside of the bicep so it always stays in place.

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (Convention pics, 4-26)

I'd love to see a quick video showing the elbow articulation in motion. Can you do that?

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (Convention pics, 4-26)

Not quite yet, like the legs I'm going to wait until I've finished all the armor pieces before I start attaching them together, and right now its all taped together so not very mobile!

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (Convention pics, 4-26)

Fair enough. But tell me this... the strips that make up the elbow articulation... are they pivoted at the ends of each one?
