MCL34N's ASM2 WIP (video update 9-9)

Re: MCL34N's ASM2 WIP

The belt is pretty cool. It breaks up all the blue in the center of the suit. Still plenty of blue HC to puff paint. I agree with El Fett. Lets make sure we all hit the gym to pull this one off.

Re: MCL34N's ASM2 WIP

i think the design is closer to ultimate spiderman, well as close as you can get to the comics check these out... IMG_0776.jpg IMG_0777.jpg IMG_0778.jpg yeah the front spider is off but all in all pretty close i think

Re: MCL34N's ASM2 WIP

I have seen these! Looks like there's enough info to make the suit. It's also incredibly simple without muscle shading and only half the puff painting. I'll probably get working on it again as soon as I catch up on the print/face-shell stuff I'm behind on. I'll be honest I still don't really like the look of this suit. I'm probably going to simultaneously make my hybrid suit that borrows a lot from this design and incorporates more ASM stuff.

Re: MCL34N's ASM2 WIP

hybrid? really well i cant wait to see that! your work is really cool man, let me know when you are back on track for new orders all the best.

To steal Nick's sentiments from another WIP thread, I wouldn't be too quick to assume a complete lack of muscle shading, since set photos tend to wash out the detail in the color blocks. Look at the Raimi suit pic he shares, and we all know how extensive the muscle shading is on that suit. You can't even tell there are brick details in the red, which we DO know is the case for both the Raimi suit and the new suit.

Just compare it to the reds on the old Raimi suit, which we KNOW has muscle shading:

In daylight the shading often doesn't show up with photographs. So if you were going to make a Raimi suit with that picture, you'd imagine the reds were completely flat.

Okay I guess I generalized a bit, I have my own opinions on its shading. It's clear that they silk screened the design onto a thicker shiny spandex, and they have some really subtly shaded areas, where the brick pattern is more prominent. When the light hits these areas that are supposed to be "shadow" the glossiness of the fabric overrides the shadow, to give all of the shading a natural look. but overall, there is very little shading on the suit. It's basically just red silk screened fabric sewn together with blue silk screened fabric. In dye sub form, it will be very simple, not nearly as much as we've seen on suits in the past.

Re: MCL34N's ASM2 WIP

This is definitely a suit that will benefit from having access to a printer who is willing to work on top of colored fabrics, since -- to my eye -- that's what it looks like they've done here. Based on the richness of the color anyway.

For sure, there's no way to achieve that look with dye-sub on straight white fabric a la all the FabricOnDemand projects. The red's so deep you could drown in it, and there's no whiting out at his knees.

Re: MCL34N's ASM2 WIP

I do like the look of the new suit. Love the big eyes and the brick pattern on the blue area and the soles are a nice touch. To me it has the Sam Rami look to it.

Nice work so far on the masks,I look foreword to seeing the progress :)

Re: MCL34N's ASM2 WIP

cool i didnt notice the web soles for the traditional boot design good eye spideyfan. also this suit has invisible zippers either side of the crotch! making it easier to get to the bathroom which is cool.

Re: MCL34N's ASM2 WIP

If you look at my most recent ASM suit I actually put a crotch zipper in-

Re: MCL34N's ASM2 WIP

See that's smart right there! One of the reasons I was only in costume for under 2 hours at WonderCon was the call of nature.

Re: MCL34N's ASM2 WIP

Dude, you are so ahead of the pack. Absolutely awesome.
I'm from Colorado originally and had a friend message me on facebook gushing about an ASM suit he saw at Starfest, since he knows about my various spidey suit projects. First thing I told him was that if he thought the suit was impressive, he should check out MCL34N's work on the RPF if he wanted to be REALLY amazed. Turns out it WAS you. Just put two and two together today.

Re: MCL34N's ASM2 WIP

really cool MCL34N for sure ahead of the game. excellent work man.

Re: MCL34N's ASM2 WIP

Are there pictures of the webshooters yet? I haven't found any online.

Welp I just found some very low res photos of them. I'm going to start working on some tonight.
