This was my first ever costume, Maya from Borderlands 2. It took me over a year to complete. I've only recently gone back and gotten photos done by a professional photographer.

Btw, if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask :)

Awesome job! I'm planning and beginning (very slowly) an Angel and a Zer0 costume (which I would also consider my first 'serious' cosplay). What tips would you pass on to other beginners? What type of fabric did you use for the top? Did you have any issues with the joining of the different colors? Were you super sew-savvy to begin with? What materials did you use for the props? Kudos by the way for doing the shield and weapon. I started working on my maylay shield - it's just cardboard layering with space for led and a battery pack. I plan on vac forming a clear plastic piece for the glowy part, then bondo, sanding, prime and paint (I feel like I'm a level 25 going after Terramorphous compared to other people doing all this resin casting and whatnot...but hey, I will level up en route, right?). Anyway, thanks so much for sharing! -dangerkitty

I could not sew AT ALL when I started this costume. The top I made from spandex, and I used a basic leotard pattern, then appliquéd the grey and yellow onto it, rather than try and make all the separate pieces and sew them together. It also stopped the yellow from being see through when stretched, which was also a bonus. My props (aside from the nerf guns I painted up) are all made from craft foam. Tips for beginners would be - YouTube is your friend! I don't think there is any of it I couldn't learn off a tutorial I found online. But by all means, I'm happy to answer any more questions :)

Thanks guys :) I have a few more Borderlands costumes planned for this year. I'll be sure to post them. Even thinking about doing tutorials for a couple.
