Master Anubis suit WIP.

excellent work, doesnt it feel good making your own stuff ! :)
Thank you. :p and well, yes and no. I like being able to make the pieces my own way, making tweaks to the piece to make it more mine but making it still look like the references. It's also cool to see how different people make the pieces different even with the same references. The down side has been the time involved in the pieces I need. I'm no were near as fast a sculptor as some people and at times it seems like duplicated effort and is a little discouraging. The best thing about it I can think of is having people liking my work.

Great work, looks really good, love all the various pieces you've made
Thanks. I figure that if I'm going to make them, I might as well make them the best I can

I was kind of cranky last night when posted and I opted not to try to express some of my frustration with either not being able to find pieces I'm happy with or having a couple barter negotiations fall through. Having UPS lose my package kind of slowed my momentum too. I was really looking forward to starting on some gauntlets but the pieces I need have the priority. Next up will be the hip armor.

i thought about getting those gloves when I went to the store. I really liked the feel of them but i didn't like how the palm was exposed with the cloth. Overall it was easier to make a fist and hold stuff with yours compared to the ones i got now.

If I knew they were like this I would have kept looking, they were misleading in all of the adds for them. I like the concept and for the money I don't think you can go wrong with them. I'll be painting them up soon so I'll have pics of them painted up soon.
BTW, that pic of the black cod piece is the one I sent you.

Quick pic. I got the texturing done on the top part. I'll be doing the mold tommorow and starting on the lower piece. I don't expect that piece to take as long.

Thanks guys! :)

I'm sad to say I utterly failed on making the mold for this one. What stinks the most is that the two pieces fit together beautifully. I'm going to reconstruct it and try again.

If I would have spent that time painting instead of sculpting, I'd feel nearly done now.

Ever forward.

Good Luck!
Thanks, this time might take me a little longer to get around to though.

I started with complete coverage of Pros-aide and white. Then just white. I went through almost a 2oz bottle of white. I probably should have finished it off to get everything completely white but I'm not that picky. Then the lighter areas got a treatment with yellow. This is the point I worked in the blue for he viens on the arms. I should have done it sooner, like before the yellow.

and the legs

I covered the yellow areas with a tan to dumb it down. Then I covered the rest of the white areas with a brown and tried to fade the brown into the yellowed areas.

I then added black to the outer darker edges and the back.

I spent about an hour suited up last night walking around with my family and freinds. This was a pretty good shake down.
Torso5.jpg

My timer gauntlet busted open when I was putting it on so my wife taped it together. the gloves were OK but I don't think I like them as much now. Apart from not taking the paint I wanted them to have, they weren't cooperating. My half mask velcro came unglued so the mask was not cooperating either. A pillow case stuffed up in the head helped a little, I'll need to figure that out too.

I found some rub points, I don't know it more permawet or just time to dry would help more. I still think I put on the Pros-Aide a little thick. I'll probably go back and add some spots but I'm not sure just yet.

And no, it wasn't quite the armor setup I originally wanted but it was a shake down on Halloween and I ran out of time.

Dude, that's looking great though! Can't wait to see it when you're finished.

It's looking good. The bio turned out great, and your paint job on the skins really looks nice. It's too bad the shins didn't work out, but I'm sure you'll be able to make another mold.

I'm just wondering about the paint job on the hands. Are they supposed to be that red in relation to the skins?

Thanks guys.

The hands are there own sad story, they are Demon Hands that were painted red already. I sprayed a set with Prose-Aide and it didn't take. I thought it might be the plastic, so I wrote them off for now and grabbed my second set and sprayed one with black plastic paint. That paint didn't seem to dry right either. So I sprayed them both with a grey primer to dumb down the red. If you look in the last pic you can see that my left glove is darker then the right. I'm going to try to get them painted right but this might just lead me to break down and sculpt hands too. It really is too bad they weren't latex, then they'd be more workable.

So I sat down last night and I wanted to see how well I could repair the FGR-95 mold...
I got all of the exposed burlap covered and most of the air pockets filled. The bad side is that I don't have the original texturing all over. The good side is that I can make them looked worn with out too much difficulty.

My first pull.

If I can get a second pull, I'll have my pair and I'll hold off on the resculpting. Or maybe just change it up and make it more custom.

Edit: this was part of my shin mold too.

Suit looks great so far! Can't wait to see more.
Thanks, this is definately slowly but surely.

I resculpted the upper shins. I found that I measured but didn't compensate for shrinkage right. So, what I have is basically too small. I increased the diameter and lengthened the spacing on the scallops. Great experience and I'm glad I got the couple pulls I did. That gave me a point of reference for the size for shrinkage. I've estimated that the Bat Black latex shrinks about 6% which is less then what I expected but more than the Mold Builder.

I also built the armature and sculpted a lower shin. I based this one on the McFarlane Scar, but I didn't like how different it was from the movie so I added in some changes to make me feel better.

Amazing work and detail. Is the Bat Black latex different then the Monsterroom latex?
Thank you! I haven't worked with Monsterroom's latex. The parts I've made seem to be vary comparable in characteristics to the Monsterroom parts I have. :)

The Bat Black latex is one of The Monster Makers latexes. They have Halloween white also. They don't say but I believe it to be the RD-407 with die/paint mixed in. I like the way it works, just not the one gallon containers they come in. My next order will be for the five gallon and then we'll see how much better the pail is.

I'm making the mold for the lower shin right now. I flipped it over and mounted the board on the top. That will allow the bottom of the shin to be at the bottom of the mold. Since that is more important than the top, it will get fully submerged in the latex before slushing.

So I finally did the mold on the top part of the shins. The mold came out pretty good considering I was trying things a little different in regards to the layering. The mating serfaces don't match as well as my previous molds so the seam on them will be little bigger than I'd like.

Got my first pull and had to put it on considering how small I made the last one. I feel good about the size but I still find I should have gone larger on the diameter of the botoms piece, they fit my calf fairly snug and they aren't even the thickness I would normally make. :) so, I may end up resculpting yet another part. I cracked the mold of that one pretty bad anyway.
