Mass Effect 3 Ending, opinions and feelings?

I had a thing pop up on Origin when I just turned on my PC. It says for $2.99 you can read crew interviews, rejected ideas, design documents, etc. from ME3. How much do you want to bet this is to put them in a good light and that anything about a previous story direction (as Drew Karpyshyn directed) won't be in there? I'm not paying $2.99 to find out of course. :lol

It's their way of countering that thing that showed up on Itunes that showed how badly things were going during development and how the producer and director took over and basically did the ending themselves.

Has anyone bothered to go back to Omega yet? Things you should note before you do.

  • Nothing you did on Omega from Mass Effect 2 outside of you going there will ever come into play.
  • You cannot bring any of your regular companions with you, so no Garrus "Archangel" moments.
  • Despite introducing the first ever female Turian, she's only a part of your group for 2/5 of the time and gets offed no matter what you do.
  • You cannot go back to Omega when the DLC is done.
  • Aria will still reside at the Citadel saying she can run things easier there and will proudly proclaim that she is Omega.

    You basically accomplish nothing.

So basically:

This DLC is lame.

I wouldn't agree. I'm half way through and having a whale of a time. Lots of loot and XP on these maps, so it'd be a good DLC to play early in your campaign.

The Oz gamer TV show Good Game (a fun show) just gave ME3 their Game of the Year award in the last ep for 2012, tonight. Oh heck with it; it's damn enjoyable; I didn't spit. The ENDING is stupid...the GAME is magnificent.

Are we shocked that bioware continues to screw up? At this rate EA might as well shut them down. After finding out how many review shows and magazines are paid by these companies i don't trust any "pro" reviewers.

No, it's not. It's just ME2 all over again with worse story telling, worse characterizations, abandoned plot elements and contrived plot devices. First two games involve saving the galaxy, and the third one is all about taking back the Earth? That's a big down grade in scope.

The thing is though, Mass Effect has shown in the past that it can have great DLC content. A great majority of the DLC for Mass Effect 2 could actually let you take your companions along and take place either during or after the game's main story line. Lair of the Shadow Broker still stands out as one of the best DLCs in any game because it can actually changed certain conditions in the main game that doesn't involve having a new weapon or more experience. All the DLC in ME3 has been just meh, with the biggest crime being mostly dedicated to Shepard alone.

Lair of the Shadow Broker expanded Liara's character from going from a desk job to the freaking Shadow Broker. Aria goes from sitting in the Citadel to.... sitting in the Citadel. For something that players have been waiting for and that BioWare has been building up with multiple non-game story lines, the end result just seems like you didn't accomplish much of anything. Even if they had to reuse the whole Omega area from ME2, it would have been awesome to at least go back there whenever you wanted and have the ability to do more with Aria like you could have with Liara in her Shadow Broker base.

I haven't purchased/played Leviathan, but I'm given to understand that it provides some new information that tries to make Destroy a less desirable choice. There was speculation that Omega would have similar information to try to make Control less desirable to further ram Synthesis down players' throats as the best option.

Was there, or was it just 3rd person shooter with little RPG like ME2 felt a lot of the time?

I can't even force myself to buy ME3 cheap used online and i sure won't be getting any new from the store bioware items. Come to think of it i have very little made by EA if any. EA's boss alienated more people saying he won't okay any games that don't have multiplayer in them as he thinks single player games are dead. Dude needs a brick up side his skull.

So far, the latter. I haven't got there yet, am just getting to the part which involves Reaper critters ATM, so I can't really say. I won't be too surprised if so though.

Eh, Destroy remains the only choice that makes any sense at all. (Yeah, I'm just positively eager to align myself philosophically and physically with creatures that have mounted a psychopathic multi-million-year mass killing and torture spree...)

Im torned about really liking the game and at the same time feeling empty.

I havent replayed it after beating it a while back. And thats pretty telling as the first thing I did after beating ME2 was to start a new game. I find it depressing to just end every relationship, and well, die. Dont get me wrong, I often like if a protagonist dies in the end, but for this one, I dont know, I just dont get any itch to start a new game.

I guess I cared a lot more for the characters in ME2. Jack was just great, and now I couldnt even get her in my team...

That's also one detail about the ending that I'm surprised no one ever brings or considers. In Mass Effect 2, it was all about companions, and it was very well done. You got to be introduced to them in certain ways (sometimes being a bit too kicka** for my tastes), got to know their stories and play a part in how they develop as characters. Some of that is there to an extent in ME3, but there's one vital piece that the previous games had that ME3 deliberately threw out the window. Having your companions with you all the way to the very end.

ME1 had you and your companions fighting Saren, and in ME2 you brought pretty much everyone and got to give rousing speeches and determine who was the best at what. They were always there by your side and it added a lot to the overall tone. In ME3, you think they're going to be with you all the way to the end just like they always have, but all of a sudden they just disappear before you make it to the conduit. This leads into the "story takes over" element of the game where it's all about Shepard, the one character who should technically not be the focus of the story. Not having your squad mates with you during the final moments of the series just comes off like they never even mattered, especially since having an effective squad was the point of the last freaking game. They were there with you, they offered their own views of the situation and gave you options.

It's almost like if Peter Jackson decided that Sam should injure his leg on the way up Mount Doom and decides to stay behind while Frodo does everything himself.

And the extended ending just makes everything worse.

I'm 100% with you on this one. I loved ME1 and had two playthroughs. Then got ME2 and imported my characters in and loved every minute of it. When ME2 came out for the PS3 I bought it again to play with the interactive comic. I did three more playthroughs on that system.

And then was stoked to receive my copy of ME3. I was loving it. Even in the end when it came down to Shepard standing alone, I was okay with that. Until it fell apart with the choice of red, green, and blue. Not even scotch and acetone could get the bitter taste out of my mouth.

Bioware should cut it's losses and start another game and pretend this one never happened. Saddly there's a lot of sheeple out there who like just about anything even if it is a crap sandwich.

They already have. ME4 is in the works out of the Montreal branch. There was a post in one of their forums asking whether people want a prequel or a sequel.

I think I got banned on the forum for my opinion on ME3 and them banning and removing any posts that were negative. They're going to have a hard time selling anything mass effect for a while as people are going to be very careful about the franchise after this mess.
