Mass Effect 3 Ending, opinions and feelings?

Honestly, all this reaction to the ending is making me have Save Farscape flashbacks.

At least Farscape and everyone involved didn't want the show to end, even going so far as to have a whole crew post series meeting where they praised everyone's work and say how dumb shows like Enterprise can stay on the air but not a show that takes chances.

Bioware on the other hand looked at their product and sang praises over it. This was exactly how they wanted the franchise to end and they fully expected everyone to go with it.

The difference between Save Farscape and Retake Mass Effect is that with Farscape, we were fighting with the creative teams that gave us Farscape. Retake Mass Effect? We're fighting against the team that brought us Mass Effect in hopes they stick to their own quotes and put their money where their mouths are.

This is like MISERY. BioWare is Paul Sheldon and some of you are Annie Wilkes.

Good luck with the hobbling. Lol

....how? Because we don't like the ending and that all we want is what they promised us?

"As Mass Effect 3 is the end of the planned trilogy, the developers are not constrained by the necessity of allowing the story to diverge, yet also continue into the next chapter. This will result in a story that diverges into wildly different conclusions based on the player's actions in the first two chapters."
- Executive Producer Casey Hudson

There is absolutely nothing that you can do in the previous two games that will change the ending.

"We wouldn't do it any other way. How could you go through all three campaigns playing as your Shepard and then be forced into a bespoke ending that everyone gets? But I can't say anymore than that."
- Bioware Producer Mike Gamble

The player gets the same exact ending with maybe 10% difference depending on how they played the game. Nothing the player can do can avoid it (Except...)

"Whether you're happy or angry at the ending, know this: It is an ending. Bioware will not do a "LOST" and leave fans with more questions than answers after finishing the game"
- BioWare Producer Mike Gamble

"Pretty much everything that people want to see wrapped up, or to be given answers, will be".
BioWare Co-Founder Ray Muzyka

:facepalm

And unlike Annie, I accept their decision to stand by their product. They will just have to accept my decision to return my Collector's Edition for a full refund. That's what I'm going to do.

Yeah. See the thing about art or a story is that it has a vision... and that vision is not yours, it's the creators'.

The amusing thing here is that even those raging most over this still claim to love the games (including this one)... they're just up in arms over how BioWare decided to end their own story.

Look, I've invested in creative things that have let me down, too. The Star Wars prequels immediately spring to mind. I think they're failures for the most part. But I'm not about to demand Lucas remake them and denounce everything else I like about SW because of it. So, yeah, you guys are overreacting.

And things like FTC filings... That goes beyond the pale.

People post all these links to news stories about this with pride, as if it somehow validates their opinion and their rage. Instead, their anger blinds them to the fact that this media stuff actually just makes them look like petulant children with no firm grasp of reality. It's every worse stereotype about fanboys/nerds come to light. No thanks.

JediCarl, when it comes to me, you're preaching to the choir. I respect Bioware's decision to stand by their product 110%, but that doesn't change the fact that the ending still sucks beyond known limits. Worse than that, my respect and admiration towards Bioware and their products has diminished greatly. I wasn't even that impressed with ME3 from the start, especially with all the bugs, the cheap production and the blatant attempts at milking characters through different mediums. The low points I had with ME3 would have at least been forgivable if the ending sucked less.

They designed, programed and structured a character specifically for Jessica Chobot who is about as essential to the story as the space hamster, yet they didn't do anything with Tali, a much beloved character who's face reveal was taken from a gawddang stock photo. They gave Jessica Chobot more attention than Tali.

:thumbsdown

That's a very fair and rational response from BioWare.

Agreed. Sounds like theyre going to make an alt. ending, and they confirmed that there will be more DLC and more full games involving the ME world, which is also great.

Might be early to say... but if the new DLC/ending pans out, Kudos to BW.

Also agreed. However, I wish they would stop using the reviews and ratings that were given by people who had not yet finished the game as a defense.

The only reasons I'm not going to return my copy are that I got 40+ hours of entertainment out of it and that I'm still playing the MP. I have a lot of games on my shelf that received no where near the same attention as ME3.

I feel the major issue at heart is Bioware's announced commitment to providing DLC over the next year. Considering that practically all endings put the galaxy in near irreparable state, what is the point? DLC that makes it easier to obtain War Assets is rather silly all things considered. Extra squad members? Meh. I played three runs on ME1 and four runs on ME2 to experience the story through different arcs and choices. ME3's rather heavy-handed ending pretty much eliminates the need for trying different things.

However, if they produced DLC ala Fallout 3 that continued play after the "ending", made it possible to keep the galaxy from crumbling, and work towards rebuilding things, then I would be tempted to try my hand at the story again.

Will I take up Dr. Ray's offer to provide my own review and thoughts in a constructive manner. Why yes, yes I will. For while it's their right to produce a junk ending, it's my right to not give them any additional money if they don't deserve it. And to me, that's what Retake ME3 is all about.

BBC News - Mass Effect 3 row prompts change to add 'further closure'

An interview with the co founder of bioware stating that they would have liked to have stuck with the critics (who they pay off) who gave the game good reviews but in the end said the fan outcry was so painful that they're going to work on something. It reads like more PR spin but at least it's better than nothing. Looks like the bad press is starting to hurt their bottom line.

It frustrates me when people say that. In the end... this is 10 minutes of a game that sucked, next to the 120 hours of the series that was brilliant. Even with the frustrations I have with the ending, I really suggest picking the series up.

After being pissed at the LACK of an ending of Skyrim, I'm sure glad I didn't play this series.

That's a bethesda tactic right there. They did it with Fallout 3 and fixed it with a large expansion DLC so no doubt Skyrim will too. I really really wanted to like ME3 but there weren't enough non scanning missions for me. I felt like a UPS driver.

Let me put it this way. If you're with a pretty lady, and things are running hot and heavy, and things are going reallllllllly good, when you get to the climax, she vomits on you.

Even if everything up to that point was good, that last bit, ruins it.

I didn't miss the scanning missions although I would have liked to been able to upgrade the Normandy's scanners to make system scanning less noticeable. I did miss the hacking mini-games.

Sheesh, I went to bed last night after having talked at some length with a Bioware employee regarding the ending and player response and the company's data collection and I wake up to what appears to be actual news? Screw sleep if I miss something like this.

Hey, if she apologizes and says lets try it again only done right, I would be more than willing to forgive that one incident. What we've got here is a lady who has a strange vomit fetish who not only doesn't apologize for the act, but asks you if you enjoyed it.

:sick

Every single time, even. Oh, and demands that you appreciate the artistic merit of it.
