Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Higher rank does play a factor when it's enlisted and an officer wanting to get it on, while technically the rules of chain of command do apply between enlisted and officers generally speaking the military is a little reticent about officers having relationships with enlisted personnel. While not expressly forbidden the military doesn't really like officers and enlisted to mingle even if it's just getting together and having a beer together at your local bar, that's why they have O-clubs & E-clubs, can't have officers mingling with their social inferiors outside of official duties.

I'm gonna leave this here:

Services Fraternization Policies

If you don't want to read it, the basic gist is that, outside of official duties and functions, officers and enlisted are not allowed to mingle. Exceptions can be made under certain circumstances, of course, the main two being family (i.e. - both an officer and enlisted within the same family) or marital ties prior to one being commissioned as an officer.

I think pretty much all services have prohibited enlisted-officer relationships. The Army was the last to adopt this rule to the fullest extend.

I'm pretty sure a lot of bases have also done away with O-Clubs and E-Clubs.

Keep in mind I don't have the regulation that governs S.H.I.E.L.D command policy, it could be siginificantly different. ;)

One thing I like about the show is how often they give us cool props to potentially duplicate. The staff from this last episode was pretty cool looking. so it can be added to the list along with the night-night gun, night-night pistol, and that thing from that one episode that blew the hole in the plane.

Not to mention the knock out staff Ward deployed in Episode 2 (the thing that was a callback to the device used to knock out the Alliance doctors in Serenity when Simon rescued River from the Academy).

Also, the little robots they use to analyze things are pretty cool.

I thought it was out of character for her too, but that look on her face didn't look like a "come have a drink" look to me.

Also, some would say that fooling around with someone of higher rank would be a turn on.

I just got to watch it tonight and that's what I was wondering. From her character, it would seem to be a "let's get drunk because we've had bad crap in our lives." OTOH that's not the look she gives him. As a guy, if a woman goes into a room and clearly lets you know she's inviting you in, I don't usually see that as just a drink invitation. :lol

As mentioned, the US military does expressly prohibit sex between any ranks that are in a superior-subordinate relationship and between Officers and Enlisted, but we all know somebody that's done it.

I agree it looked like more than a "have a drink" look but does seem out of character for her. If this rage takes decades to wear off it certainly could affect other personality traits but they both seemed to recover from this powerful force remarkably well by the end of the episode. Maybe some good hate sex helps.

Well, it didn't look like that bottle was full either. She might have already killed off half of it and was switching from rage mode to "I need some angry, meaningless sex" mode.

Well, the base/butt of the staff was identical to the base of Loki's scepter, so add a long, ruin-covered stick to the base and BOOM! Replicated.

Another great episode. A lot more character development.

Melinda May is pure awesomeness!

Preview for next episode..... I thought that guy was dead!

Hehe. All this talk about god and hell, I was hoping that Mephisto was going to be hinted at. One More Day with Phil? Well, at least Phill is a better character to bring back to life than Aunt May.

"Anyone else catch Coulson showing his badge upside down at the "welcome wagon" scene?"

Being an owner of the EFX badge, yep caught that one and immediately thought must have figure it was such a fast flash no one would notice unless you were a prop geekaholic. :lol

This episode was pure character development. Most specifically, that of Skye and May.

I am glad to see that Chloe Bennett is putting some effort into her role, too. It's good to see that they're toning down the model looks and upping the substance of the character.

Well, all the theories I had about May's dark moment and the May/Ward thing were completely destroyed. Still not thrilled with the May/Ward hookup, but May's backstory was nicely put into words by Coulson.

The actual story of the guy causing a little chaos just to get a glimpse of the pretty lady (and subsequently screwing the pooch) is an old story, but it still works today.

The pranking subplot was a nice touch, and I liked how utterly inept at it both Fitz and Simmons were. Of course, May coming back with a classic prank just ended the episode perfectly.

Just like the use of the old communicator watch or the story of the guy who screws up trying to get the girl, sometimes the best methods are the tried and true ones.

Well, I’m really glad I decided to stick with the series, its beginning to be consistently entertaining every episode now, and its character writing has not only considerably improved, but it has broadened and increased the appeal of every single cast member without fail (though Skye still remains a bit of a lost sheep within the crew, other than being an angel of empathy of course , though at least Phil had the grace to say he thinks he knows what he wants to do with her eventually).
They are also managing with great success to get the balance between plot and character development spot on, so it just feels more naturalistic (even down to the scrabble game at the end and Mays slight smile) and the result was the episode felt satisfyingly complete (even without a Coulson regeneration clue!). I also enjoyed how the plot flipped mid way from being a regular X men to a haunted house (or is that plane?) story.
Outside of the series I have to say how utterly impressed I am in Ming-Na Wren’s real super power, which is to apparently to have stopped time and aging in her thirties. Given she has actually been alive as long as Dr Who’s been on television it appears she may have also flinched his regenerating powers as well as managing to channel Bruce Lees fighting spirit. What an awesome person!
Mid season cliff hanger coming up,should be interesting to see whats going to happen. I’ve bought the cigars, just waiting to light them up.

I didn't believe that until I googled it. I wouldn't have guessed anywhere near 50.

I'm also on the dislike 'list' for the May/Ward thing. It could well take is into soap opera territory if they aren't careful. The show is definitely getting better now, but I still feel that if it wouldn't bother me if I missed an episode.

Bear McCreary's work is the best part at the minute. I hope they release the soundtrack.

Put it this way... she was already 31 when she played Chun-Li in the utterly forgettable Street Fighter movie.

As to why time has apparently stopped for her:

I was actually glad they went with that then have it be him and Skye, which is probably what everyone was expecting. I get it though, I'm 36 and she's still hot! I think she actually is more attractive than in the Streetfighter pic above.
