Marty McFly's Skateboard - Valterra Splatter Deck Conversion

I believe all of this is going to be free, for us that ordered these boards.

Knightlife is just coming in and doing these things for us as good customer service. All the while to clean up the mess that someone else made for him.

I'm not sure it will be free, but I honestly don't care about paying a few $$ extra to get something really cool. As you said Joe is cleaning up somebody else's mess.

Yes. we're very greatful that someone is helping to sort out the mess. This is what I was thinking. I'm quite happy to pay for the extra correct parts, but just wanted to make sure people knew about it either being free or paying more money out for replacing the wrong parts on the boards. Seems a shame that all the digging through archives to find original parts to cast from or casting from the movies boards wasn't thought about by Madrid before now though. If this is meant to be the final mcfly board to be released, you'd have thought they'd want it to be perfect. Oh well, too late now I guess. The boards do look super nice in the pictures of the ones that have been showing up so far. Hope to get mine soon! Then hopefully we can add the correct coppers and maybe wheels!? :cool

Could these parts be bought seperately ?
I'm going to make my own board, but finding correct parts isn't easy,
especially if you're a "skateboard-parts" noob:lol, like me.

Thanks in advance.

I received both of my boards yesterday and overall I am very pleased with the product. I took the board I bought to skate out for a run this morning. I'll post a few more pictures and a review in the next day or so.

Dream34, I'm glad your boards finally showed up, and glad you like them. I dig the dirty wheels - my wheels are filthy from the Puente Hills parking lot.

Everyone else, about the 'add-on' parts. There are just three parts in question. I just want to be really clear about everything. 1. The copers. 2. The wheels. 3. The trucks.

1. The copers. It seems to be everyone's choice that IF Jerry Madrid will loan me the original copers, I should mold and cast them. Jerry is traveling for Thanksgiving and I probably won't hear back about the copers until he gets back. Be patient, and we'll figure this out. But, this is me doing this for you guys - I'll do all the work and there won't be any markup obviously, but I will need a couple bucks to cover supplies and shipping. Madrid did the best they could to find the OG flat-bottomed copers and shouldn't be faulted for not being able to find them. Remanufacturing them for a limited run wasn't possible.

2. The wheels. This is possible and I do have the skills to do this. But, like the copers, this would just be me molding my vintage wheels and experimenting with materials and colors. It may or may not ultimately work. I'll probably have to do a bunch of tests and send a set of wheels out to Dream34 to give them a test ride. There's all sorts of things that can go wrong with this, like shrinkage and other stuff I haven't thought of yet. Or, it will just work. But, I'd have to split the cost of doing this with everyone who wants a set, plus shipping. I know nobody wants to buy anything before seeing them, but neither do I. We have to be in this experiment together. Again, Madrid shouldn't be faulted for not having the ability to have new molds created for the OG Fly wheels. It was prohibitively expensive for such a short run. We brought this project to Madrid and together, we did the best that could be done for a limited production run. The only other possibility was not to do the boards at all.

3. The trucks. Dream34 may have found a great trucks swap that only needs to be painted black. If they work out, we'll all just have to order those directly. I can't make trucks. But what Dream34 found works out, I will buy a couple pairs of them too.

And, anybody who's lucky enough to already have the proper vintage flat-bottomed copers and needs new 'vintage' Madrid stickers for them, send me a PM and I'll ship you a set. I've already shipped a few sets out. I don't mind dropping a couple stickers in an envelope for you guys.

Happy Holidays

Is it just not possible to CNC machine the text into the new fly wheels? After the machinging they could be hit with some solvent or just buffed a bit to take down the edges. Just thinking out loud.

Eagerly awaiting my board and already have some NOS Z-Flex copers to swap :)

That's one way to do it. Every way has its drawbacks.

Looks great! :cool Thanks for sharing your pictures. I'm in the UK too. Hoping my board will arrive soon too. Did you get your tracking number in the end? Were you able to track it at all. Not got a number here yet. Did you have any customs charges at this end?

Yes did have tracking via USPS and arrived after 7 days, I did get stung with import fees of £30 around $45 which isn't as bad as it could have been since the board was over $300 but Madrid only declared $100 on the label.

That's less import fees than I imagined.
I didn't buy the board because I thought the import fees would be very high,
I guess was wrong:)

Yeah, thought so. Bit annoying, but no way to avoid the charges. £30 isn't too bad though. Just need my tracking number now, or even an email or message to say it's been sent out. Hopefully soon.

Matron, I submitted another request for your shipping information. Madrid ordered a batch of new wheels a while ago (same as their current wheels, just more of them). The wheels had an ETA of one week earlier than they'll actually arrive. So Madrid's hands will soon be tied behind their backs with a stack of finished boards that are just waiting for the wheels before they can. I do not know who's boards will be affected by this, hopefully no one here. Feel free to continue to PM me your order numbers and I'll keep pushing until the last board goes out.

It's been three months since I ordered my Valterra Skateboard. It still has not shown up yet. I have no tracking number or have found any information reguarding the boards. Two week's paychecks were blown so I could finally get my hands on this prop and so far, nothing. Does anyone have any news?

There's actually quite a bit of info in this thread about the skateboard delays. But, more importantly, send me a PM with your name and order number and I'll track down your board and get you shipping info. The delays are unfortunate because the boards really are great, and you'll get yours. Hopefully, really soon.

You will get it!! :thumbsup

I second this.

Thank you. So some of the boards aren't complete for sending out yet?

Oh, thank you. I was afraid it did arrive and someone walked off with it. After reading about it, I have regained confidence that it will arrive soon.

Good. Yes, it will show up. If you haven't heard anything by next week, send me another PM and I'll push again. I just spoke with Madrid and they are hoping to get the wheel shipment this week. There are stacks of boards finished and just waiting for the wheels. Next week, there should be a mass of new people getting tracking information.
