i have a WTB thread going in the classifieds for this, but figured id post a discussion thread on it too...
ANy Highlander fan is no doubt familiar with the "sword of the dragon" which was used in the TV series 2-6.....
However the current version has the bronze "collar" around the dragons neck..... this was NOT always so...
the first "generation" of this sword did NOT have the collar....... marto added the collar because the dragon heads would pop off easily from what ive heard...
i wish i had some pictures of this..... and beyond seeing it in the tv series i have only EVER seen ONE picture of one of them in a catalog a long time ago.......
a friend of mine said he used to have one but sold it.......

so do these even exist anymore?

Ordered it from a Marto catalog ages ago. Back when new episodes of Highlander were still airing.

awesome guys.

i dont suppose any of you would want to response to that WTB thread in the junkyard eh? :)

I have the first one sold in the U.S.

At least thats what Steve at Marto USA told me

Still have it.

Nope, that's one piece I will have until the very end of my collecting days. Sorry, not interested in selling that one off.

I'm sure it's a poor substitute but you can find the taiwan replicas of this piece that are lacking the collar. I see them on ebay from time to time and you can also check out any local flea markets as they end up there on the cheap as well.

I bought mine from a cutlery shop in the mall back when Highlander the TV seriues was first starting out.

yeh your right they ARE poor substitues...
in fact i have a taiwanese knockoff and it doesnt compare to the marto....

im actually in the process of having a marto recast onto a paul chen practical katana blade to try to make a "functional" SOTD.........we'll see how that goes

That shop would'nt have been Chesapeake Knife and Tool?

I honestly dont remember the name of the store as it was many moons ago when it closed up shop. That name doesn't sound familiar though.

Gee David how many highlander swords do you need? lol You've got the Sal's I know.... did you get to keep his prototype Connor you had pics of recently? It was quite nice.

i need um all...................

no i didnt keep the prototype......... i AM however getting one with the folded bushido blade....... soon.

I thought you had one of Sal's too David. You just trying to get all the official variants in your collection? You might try Grand Prairie Knives www.gpknives.com , their phone # is on the website but they don't list the Highlander swords on the website. I was in their showroom a few months back & I know they had a few Highlander swords on the wall. Hopefully they may still be there & just not listed on the website.

Hitogiri, the Conner prototype is in my Highlander collection now. I'm just still searching for a legit Adrian Paul sig on a Duncan photo so I can set up a nice display w/both Duncan & Conner swords I have from Sal beside autographed photos of Lambert & Paul.

OHHH so YOUR the lucky guy who got the prototype from Sal?
congrats. thats a fine blade.....

no i dont have one of his connor swords, yet, im saving up to get the bushido bladed version

Ah thats a cool piece. The prototype had a practical blade right?
[/b]

yeh the prototype had a practical plus blade, but not just ANY blade. I have seen alot of Chens PK and PPK blades but this one was by far the nicest........ this one has as much attention to detail as the higher end peices did....... it was unusually thin for a PPK blade, but not in a bad way since most of the PPKs are too bulky...... it had a realy nice polish on it, well defined kissaski.....

i was really tempted to buy it myself, but i wanted the folded steel blade

Yeah I know, it was a tough decision though huh. A folded blade or the prototype of the nicest movie sword ever lol.

well it wasnt that hard because i know the folded one will be supreme and match my already supreme folded Musashi

Thats true, I'm still upset about the Albion not coming to fruitation though...
[/b]

well there is ALOT of reasons for that....
