Highlander Sword Disassembly Help

Hello all. I know this is an old topic but I have a cheap Highlander replica sword and I am trying to remove the hilt. I was able to remove the pins but not having any luck getting the hilt to move. Has anyone taken one of these apart? Is there epoxy inside the metal ring at the base of the hilt or is there a trick to remove without breaking that ring? I’ve used a rubber mallet and also a heat gun but trying to be cautious so not to break it completely.

Any help welcome!

I'm guessing there might be some glue in there, you could try boiling some water and dipping the entire handle in there for 30-60 seconds to loosen it up, I don't think that would be hot enough to melt the plastic handle, but I'm not an expert there. I just did that to remove a fixed orange tip on an air soft gun so I could put a tracer unit on there and that plastic is way cheaper and thinner than what the sword handle would be. It didn't hurt the gun or the orange tip at all.

I ended up doing some more work with heat gun and rubber mallet. Finally got it to move. Doesn’t seem like epoxy was used but the heat probably loosened the plastic holding inside.

The first one I removed was made by Musha and they used glue/epoxy so I heated the tsuka slowly with a heat gun until it began to move and come off. The second one was held by two pins and after I removed them it came out easily. You can buy the pvc dragon hilts loose for $18 on ebay. Later I found a H1 tsuka and put together a few more using tsubas from Zeist Armories and Hanwei blades.
