Mark VII (leisurely paced) cardboard build

Since I've scrapped a lot of previous builds due to getting burned out on a project, I figure I would take a more leisurely paced approach to it. I've been going to my garage every other night or so, working a few hours here and there. This is my first cardboard build and I must say, this may be my favorite medium so far for a suit build, I plan on doing resin and bondo for the finish. Feel free to critique and offer any advice, I've learned a lot from everyone on the forum but also have a lot more to learn. Thanks go to Darkside501st,Gaiatron, and Eyeofsauron to name a few for the files and expertise. I just have the boots, hands and fingers to go then I'll start to coat it all.

Here are a few pics of progress so far...

Love the way this neck piece looks, I may end up casting a final version in a silicone for easier neck turning ability

Piecing him together to see how the finished product will look. Just need the fingers, hand plates, boots and hip pods now.

Hey

Your build is amazing! I am also thinking of starting a cardboard build myself. Have you worn the suit? Do you think it's durable? I've only built foam suits before so I'm just Questioning what kind of differences I should expect when I move to cardboard.

Amazing work!

Thanks a lot! I've tried most of it on to test fit and such,I'll be coating it with resin and bondo so it'll be super durable and have some weight to it.

Do you think that resin and bondo is necessary ? It'll make it more durable but I'm wondering if the suit just spray painted will be good enough to wear (ie to a party)

If I leave just cardboard and spray paint that, the corrugation in the cardboard will be relatively apparent and if it's just cardboard then it will break apart very quickly. I'm going for high detail and durability with this one, the cardboard definitely will not hold up for multiple uses.

Ah I got it. Great inspiring stuff. Can't wait to see more!

Had a lot of down time at work...again. Started the feet, that'll be pretty much all of the basic construction done once I finish the boots then I should be good to start some resin coating.
